SEATTLE -- All the reports from the minors said Mike Zunino was making the changes the Seattle Mariners wanted to see. His power was still there, but the strikeouts were down and the pitch recognition was improved. Now back in the majors, Zunino provided a promising glimpse on Saturday night of what the Mariners hope is an improved version of the former first-round pick.Zunino homered twice in his first game of the season, Nelson Cruz and Seth Smith both hit three-run home runs, and the Mariners slugged past the Baltimore Orioles 12-6 on Saturday night.Adam Lind had four hits including a solo homer as the Mariners won for the sixth time in eight games and took their third straight from the AL East leading Orioles. Its always exciting to get back. Obviously how last year ended isnt how you write it up. Theres been a lot of work put into it and just to get the opportunity to come back and do that, that was a lot of fun, Zunino said. To come in and have that type of game was even better.Cruz staked Seattle to a 3-0 lead with his 21st homer of the season in the first inning off Baltimore starter Tyler Wilson (4-6) and Zunino extended it to 5-0 in the second on a two-run shot in his first at-bat of the season after being called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier this week.Zunino, a former first-round pick by the Mariners, was rushed to the majors early in his career and his hitting suffered, bottoming out last year when he hit .174 in 112 games. Seattle spent the offseason retooling Zuninos approach at the plate, but the goal was to keep him at Triple-A for most of the season. When backup catcher Steve Clevenger suffered a broken bone in his hand earlier this week, a move needed to be made and Zunino was the obvious choice. He lined a 1-2 curveball from Wilson out in the second inning then drove the first pitch from reliever Mychal Givens in the sixth.Perhaps most impressive of his three times on base, Zunino walked in the eighth laying off borderline pitches he went after in the past. Its not easy to go back to the minor leagues and work on things and have a good attitude about it, Seattle manager Scott Servais said. Happy for him and a big night no doubt. Wasnt expecting two home runs but well take it.Cruzs homer was estimated at 459 feet and landed above the bullpens in deep left-center and the five home runs helped Seattle move into second in the majors with 122, trailing only Baltimore.Smith ended Wilsons night with a three-run shot in the fourth, getting the green light on a 3-0 pitch for his ninth homer of the season. It was Smiths third straight game with a home run and he finished with four RBI.I dont swing 3-0 very often but sometimes you want to take a chance and see what happens, Smith said.Wilson failed to record an out in the fourth before getting pulled. It was his shortest outing of the season as a starter.Hes not as quite as crisp as he was . Hes just not carrying the same crispness he had earlier in the season, Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. The offensive outburst gave leeway for Seattle starter James Paxton when he struggled in the later innings. Paxton (2-3) was dominant for four innings, but couldnt make it out of the sixth after allowing five base runners in the inning. Tom Wilhelmsen got a pop out from Adam Jones with the bases loaded to escape the sixth.Chris Davis had three RBI, including a two-run homer in the seventh off reliever Nathan Karns.TRAINERS ROOMOrioles: Showalter sounded pessimistic that RHP Darren ODay (hamstring) would be able to throw a bullpen session when the Orioles are in Los Angeles early next week. ODays been on the disabled list since June 3.Mariners: LHP Charlie Furbush threw a simulated game as he continues his recovery from shoulder problems. Furbush will likely be sent out on a rehab assignment soon.UP NEXTOrioles: Ubaldo Jimenez (5-7) goes for his third straight victory. Jimenez gave up one run in five innings in his last start against San Diego.Mariners: Hisashi Iwakuma (7-6) starts the finale of the four-game series. Iwakuma threw 6 2/3 innings in his last start to get the win. Khris Middleton Jersey . Burris threw two TD passes, including a key 15-yard fourth-quarter strike to Bakari Grant that effectively countered a Toronto comeback bid and led Hamilton to a 33-19 victory. Pat Connaughton Jersey . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. https://www.bucksrookiesshop.com/Eric-Bledsoe-City-Edition-Jersey/ . -- Vincent Lecavalier got everything but the desired result in his return to Tampa Bay. D. J. Wilson Jersey . Manuel was offered a position the day he was fired. He accepted earlier this week and the team made the announcement Friday. Oscar Robertson Bucks Jersey . 1 position. The Mustangs (6-0), who beat Queens 50-31 last weekend, earned 17 first-place votes and 287 points in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada. Western was last ranked first in the country in October 2011. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Questionable penalty calls, a great audible by Eli Manning, a dazzling 66-yard catch and run by Odell Beckham Jr., and a last-second pass knocked down in the end zone. That was just some of the wackiness Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The struggling New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens came into Sundays game at MetLife Stadium riding losing streaks and not playing their best on offense. Not much was expected. Then, the last two minutes were as exciting as they can get in New Yorks 27-23 win.The Giants (3-3) lost the lead with 2:04 to play, regained it 40 seconds later on the 66-yard catch and run by Beckham, then held off a last-ditch Ravens drive that reached the 24-yard line thanks, in part, to a debatable roughing- the-passer call on a fourth-down incompletion that should have sealed New Yorks win. This was huge, Giants receiver Victor Cruz said after they snapped a three-game losing streak. These wins are ones that we have to continue to mount up to stay in the conversation and continue to compete in the division, but also the entire league. The Giants saw their chances of winning damaged by referee Jeff Triplette and his crew twice in the final minutes.Baltimore took the lead after cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was called for pass interference at the 8-yard line. On the play, both he and receiver Breshad Perriman were looking back for the ball. If anything, Perriman seemed to interfere with the defender. The call went the other way, and Terrance West scored from 2 yards three plays later to give the Ravens a 23-20 lead.Rodgers-Cromartie refused to criticize the call that another teammate, who didnt want to be identified because of fine possibilities, called horrible.Im fighting with him and hes looking at the ball. Thats legal, Rodgers-Cromartie said, adding he did not argue because thats the way he is.Facing a fourth straight loss, the Giants rallied. They needed only four plays to retake lead, with Beckham and Manning connecting on that clutch 66-yard slant on fourth-and-1.ddddddddddddManning came to the line and saw the Ravens playing man-to-man defense. He changed the play to go to Beckham, who earlier caught a 75-yard TD pass and finished with eight catches for a career-best 222 yards. He did a good job of beating the guy and making him fall down, said Manning, who threw for 403 yards. You hit him in stride and good things happen.Beckham almost cost the Giants, though, which seemed fitting considering the wild nature of the final minutes. After scoring with 1:24 to play, he took off his helmet and was assessed a 15-yard penalty. The Ravens got the ball back at their 32 and Joe Flacco immediately hit passes of 13 and 11 yards. On fourth-and-5 from the New York 39, Flacco threw an incompletion, but drew a late-hit call on Owa Odighizuwa, giving Baltimore a first down at the Giants 24 with 15 seconds to play.Rodgers-Cromartie defended Mike Wallace on two passes and Flaccos pass into the end zone to Dennis Pitta was knocked down.It was the 20th time in 22 games that the Ravens outcome was decided by eight points or less. Were a .500 team, Baltimore safety Eric Weddle said. We are 3 and 3 in tight games. Weve won some, weve lost some. We could easily say we could be 5 and 1. Or we could be 0 and 6. Its a long season. Its about being consistent. Its been exciting, though, as the Giants found out seeing Beckham save their day with his last touchdown.Listen man, to sit back as a player and just watch that, its amazing, man, Rodgers-Cromartie said of Beckham, who left the game in the first half with a hip pointer. He gives you boost that you need as a defense to say, `Man, this guy here is out here on fire. . So you go out there (as a defense) with a little swag not to let them in.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
