Queensland Coach Kevin Walters has warned NSW that the Maroons dynasty is far from over after the Blues prevented a State of Origin series clean sweep. The Blues were buoyant about the future after winning game three 18-14 at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday night in skipper Paul Gallens final interstate game.NSW blooded eight debutants in a significant changing of the guard in the Maroons 2-1 series win and say their come-from-behind win in game three will give them the momentum they need heading into 2017.But Walters, who enjoyed series success in his first year since taking over from Mal Meninga, said the great Queensland side hadnt run out of steam yet.NSW finished off a tough series well, Walter said. But we will get confidence with this team knowing what we have done before. We lost in 2014 and we have gone on to win the next two so we know how to bounce back.Right now we will enjoy this series win and then move on next year.Game three rookies Wade Graham and James Tedesco were the latest of a string of debutants in 2017 for NSW that included Matt Moylan, Jack Bird and Tyson Frizell. But Queenslandd will have Dylan Napa, Ben Hunt, Anthony Milford, Valentine Holmes and Cameron Munster available after the youngsters were excluded from this years due to a disciplinary suspension.ddddddddddddQueensland veterans Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith and Johnathan Thurston will go around one more time at least. But Gallen said the Blues have a great launching pad following their win, which was secured by a Michael Jennings try with 78 seconds left.It will be enormous, Gallen said. They are so close, you have only have to look at games one and two.We stood up to them tonight and that will be fantastic for confidence going forward. We are on the way. We are not exactly where we want to be but there are a lot of young guys coming through compared to Queensland. We are building this side and in another year or two those blokes will be more than capable.Working against the Blues is the fact that Brisbane will host two games last year, where NSW have won one of the past nine matches. TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim didnt mince his words when discussing his teams performance in its 23-21 loss to backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the New England Patriots on Sunday night. You wake up Monday morning with a loss. Youre angry, disappointed, embarrassed, and thats the way we should all feel, Keim said on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. Just didnt get it done, and a lot of reasons why we didnt get it done. And that needs to improve. Thats certainly unacceptable. After the game Sunday night, coach Bruce Arians said his team was not prepared well enough. We were obviously not ready to play, Arians said during his postgame news conference. They outplayed us and we will learn from it and grow from it and continue.Theres a long way to go and regroup and see if we can win the next one.Keim criticized all three phases of the Cardinals performance at University of Phoenix Stadium, citing an overall lack of execution. He called Arizonas special teams very disappointing in every area, its third-down defense very frustrating, and said the passing game was out of sync in the first half, when quarterback Carson Palmer and his receivers were not on the same page.Kicker Chandler Catanzaro missed a potential game-winning kick with 41 seconds left after rookie long snapper Kameron Canaday snapped it low. Arizonas offense never began a drive past its own 25-yard line when receiving a kickoff from the Patriots. The Cardinals defense failed to stop New England on 10 of 16 third downs and had trouble defending Garoppolo?despite knowing what was coming. Keim said Arizona felt pretty strongly about the defensive plan Arizona had in place, but the Cardinals just didnt execute.Keim also blamed poor tackling for allowing what shouldve been a short gain on third-and-manageable situations to turn into a first down.We knew it would be hard to get to Garoppolo because most of it would be a three-step drop and he would get the ball out of his hands, but the cushion that we played with, the isolations that they got with some of their inside slot receivers on safeties and the lack of leverage and the inability to tackle in space, those were all extremely disappointing and a major reason why we were 10-of-16, Keim said.Keim said he doesnt believe in good losses. Not when youre playing a backup quarterback and theyre missing some playmakers and its a game at home, he said. Our mindset is you cannot lose those games in front of our crowd.Keim said he will bring in players to try out for the Cardinals on Tuesday -- something he didnt do last week -- but wouldnt specify at which positions. While the Cardinals performance in their season-opening loss has caused some second-guessing among those who picked them to win Super Bowl LI, Keim said he hasnt levied that type of hype on his team. He said he has been focused on building a talented group. He noted that when the Cardinals roster doesnt play to its level, then were going to have disappointment, and thats certainly what happened last night. We got to regroup, Keim said. Its the-sky-is-falling Monday, and thats the feel that all of us should have and use that as a chip on our shoulder to make sure it doesnt happen again. Its that one thing that we have to do is continue to go out and execute and make sure that something like last night doesnt happen again. Scroll down the page to see them and dont forget to have a go at this weeks Tylers Teaser! How to send your questions to Martin: 1: Email your posers to skysportsclub@bskyb.com2. Tweet @SkyFootball using the hashtag #TylersTeasersMartins starting statsI didnt do a Sky Sports commentary this weekend because Liverpool against Chelsea has been rearranged to May 11 due to the Blues involvement in the FA Cup - but I covered Leicester versus Newcastle for the world feed.It was the first league double Leicester had done over Newcastle since the 1974/75 season. The Magpies have lost their last seven away games in the Premier League and its 50 years since they last lost seven consecutive away games in a single league season. Shinji Okazakis goal against Newcastle was first home goal for Leicester Shinji Okazaki scored his sixth Leicester City goal and his fifth in the Premier League - but it was his first goal at home. One of his away goals was at Newcastle in November. He has started the last 10 Premier League games and been substituted in all of them.By contrast, Georginio Wijnaldum, Newcastles top scorer with nine, is still waiting for his first away goal for the club.We referred to the partnership of Robert Huth and Wes Morgan last week - and it has gone to 43 Premier League games and 24 wins to go with 12 draws and only seven defeats.Jeffrey Schlupp came on as a substitute for the fourth consecutive game to reach 50 Premier League appearances.Jack Colback, quite conspicuously, avoided any risk of getting a 10th yellow card that would have kept him out of a game that means so much to him against Sunderland - and he is ready to face the Black Cats on Sky Sports on Super Sunday.Fewest points for fourth Manchester City are currently fourth in the table Whats the lowest points tally a Premier League team has needed to qualify for the Champions League? RikMARTIN SAYS: Since the Premier League was awarded a fourth Champions League spot at the start of the 2001/02 season, the average points of the team that has finished fourth is 69.35.However, the lowest points total any team has mustered and still come fourth were Liverpool with 60 in 2003/04, while the most is Arsenal who managed to come fourth in 2013/14 with 79 points. The four main contenders for the final Champions League place this season - Arsenal, Manchester City, West Ham and Manchester United - are all on track to finish on more than the record low of 60 - but less than the average of 69.35.Arsenal are third on 52 points and have picked up 1.79 points per game. At that rate they will finish on 68 points at the end of the season.City are currently in fourth on 51 points, and will finish on 67 if they continue on their current points per game rate. While West Ham would finish on 64 and Manchester United on 62.If City finish on 67 points and finish fourth, it will be the lowest tally since Arsenal finished fourth with the same total in 2005/06.When Chelsea finished sixth in 2011/12 and won the Champions League to qualify for the next seasons competition, they still amassed 64 points - which in some seasons would have been enough to finish fourth.Villas goalscoring woes Aston Villa have only scored 22 goals this season What is the lowest number of goals scored in a Premier League season, and are Aston Villa in danger of beating this record? Stephen BonifaceMARTIN SAYS: Aston Villa are not in danger of becoming the lowest scorers in Premier League history during a single season, having already scored 22 goals - two more than Derby County managed when they were relegated in 2007/08.Remi Gardes side, however, could join an exclusive club of nine other teams that have mustered fewer than 30 goals in a single campaign.Sunderland lead the way having done so three times (29 goals in 2001/02, 21 goals 2002/03 and 26 in 2005/06), while Burnley scored just 28 times last season.Norwich (28 in 2013/14), Middlesbrough (28 in 2008/09), Birmingham (28 in 2005/06) and West Brom (29 in 2002/03) were also relegated after scoring less than 30 goals in a season. However, Manchester City (29 in 2006/07), Leeds United (28 in 1996/97) stayed up with fewer than 30 goals scored, a feat also managed by Sunderland in 2005/06.League leaders Tottenham have not been top of the Premier League yet this season If Tottenham go on to win the Primer League, would it be the least amount of time any side has spent at the top in a title-winning season?MARTIN SAYS: Tottenham have not finished a matchday top of the Premier League at all so far this season (and have only spent 33 days on top in the history of the competition). They currently trail Leicester by five points, so Saturday, April 2 is the earliest they could go top of the Premier League this season.Should they do so on that date, which would rely on Leicester to lose their next game at Crystal Palace and Spurs to win both of theirs, then the longest that Mauricio Pochettinos side could top the table for this season is 43 days.Only two sides have led the Premier League for less time in one season and lifted the title.Manchester City led for just 15 days in 2013/14 when they overtook Liverpool in the final days of the season, while Manchester United were on top for just 31 days of the 2002/03 season. At the other end of the spectrum, Chelsea led for an impressive 274 days last season after going top in August.Southamptons poor discipline Sadio Mane became the sixth Southampton player sent off this season in the Premier League Southampton have had six red cards this season. Whats the highest any team has finished after getting so many? PaddyMARTIN SAYS: To date, 37 teams have had at least six red cards in a season since the inception of the Premier League.Perhaps surprisingly, only seven of those clubs have been relegated during that campaign (Hull - 6 in 2014/15 and 2009/10, Nottingham Forest - 6 in 1998/99, Birmingham - 7 in 2005/06, Newcastle - 8 in 2008/09, Blackburn, - 8 in 1998/99 and Leicester - 8 in 1994/95).As you can see from the above, three of the four sides to finish a season on eight red cards were relegated - but the other side to do so - West Ham in 1999/2000 - finished ninth. No Premier League side has yet reached double figures for red cards in a single season, although QPR (2011/12) and Sunderland (2009/10) went close with nine dismissals. QPR finished 17th that year and Sunderland were 13th.Southampton are seventh in the Premier League table, despite their six red cards this season, and could become just the eighth side with at least that many to finish in the top eight.Arsenal have been the best performing side with a poor disciplinary record, winning the league in 2001/02 with six red cards, while they finished second in 1998/99 with seven and fourth in 2010/11 with six. They are the three highest finishes of any team with six red cards in a season. TULSA, Okla. -- Junior Etou scored 17 points and made two clutch baskets down the stretch that helped Tulsa repel a strong Oregon State rally for a 75-64 win on Tuesday night.Junior college transfer Jaleel Wheeler added 16 points and Sterling Taplin and Pat Birt nine each in matchup of two of last years NCAA Tournament participants which were hit hard by graduation. Tulsa (2-2) shot 45 percent and outrebounded OSU 38-23, led by Etons seven boards.Tres Tinkle scored 19 points for Oregon State (2-3), JaQuori McLaughlin had 12 points and five rebounds and Drew Eubanks added 10 points and five boards.Trailing 37-22 after a tentative first half, Oregon State asserted itself early in the second, opening with a 17-3 run to pull within 40-39 on a 3-pointer by Kendal Manuel.Tulsa regained some control with a 7-0 run by Taplin, who made a 3-pointer, a free throw and then a steal and layup to push the lead back to 53-44. OSU kept chipping away and was within four when Etou answered with a 3-pointer from the left corner, then a layup on a nifty assist from Taplin, giving Tulsa a 67-58 advantage with 2:50 left.I think what we did was we shot quick shots early in the second half, said Tulsa coach Frank Haith. We got out of character on offense in the second half. They have good players and they made some shots, they got their rhythm and they got confidence, but Im proud of how we bowed our backs and didnt falter.Tulsa opened the big halftime lead despite using 12 players and changing lineups constantly. Seven players made at least one 3-pointer in the half, eight scored and Tulsa limited the Beavers to 39 percent shooting (9-23).Im proud of the way we battled back, said OSU coach Wayne Tinkle. They had 25 free throws to eight for us and had a big edge on the boards. We played with much more purpose in the second half and thats the waay we need to play, with passion, energy and purpose.dddddddddddd. I didnt see that in the first half.BIG PICTUREOregon State: The Beavers lost eight players who had played in a combined 622 games at OSU. Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle admitted he peeled a little paint with his halftime and post-game sermons in reminding his young team of the passion and intensity it needs to demonstrate on a consistent basis. We were acting way too cool, Tinkle said. Thats not how you play at Oregon State and these young guys need to learn that.Oregon State was without guard Stephen Thompson Jr., out with a leg injury.Tulsa: The Hurricane are replacing 10 seniors and have just five players who were on the roster last year, including two who sat out (TK Edogi redshirted and Etou was a transfer from Rutgers). With 10 new players, its all about practicing, working to get better, Haith said. Weve got some high character guys who want to work and its showing.NEWCOMERS COME UP BIGNot only did Wheeler score 16 points, but freshman center Will Magnay replaced Edogi and fellow freshman Martins Igbanu at center for most of the final 10 minutes, making 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch, grabbing four rebounds and coming up with two blocks. Its nice to have the three of them and go with who has the hot hand, Haith said. Will has a big body, knows the game and has a lot of upside. Plus hell be about an 80 percent free throw shooter. Its good to have him in there when theyre fouling to get back in the game.UP NEXTOregon State: returns home for games Friday against Fresno State and Monday against Southern Oregon.Tulsa: visits crosstown rival Oral Roberts Monday. CLEVELAND -- John Greco figured hed go to training camp, try to win a starting job and hopefully be rewarded with a new contract. The Browns had other plans. Greco, who made 10 starts at left guard last season after Jason Pinkston contracted blood clots in his lungs, agreed to terms Tuesday on a five-year contract through the 2017 season. Financial terms were not disclosed. "It caught me off guard a little bit," Greco said. "Im thrilled and a bit relieved. Im happy the Browns have value in me." Pressed into the starting lineup when Pinkston fell ill, the versatile Greco did not miss an offensive snap over his first nine starts and solidified one of Clevelands strongest units. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder was part of a line that helped running back Trent Richardson rush for a franchise rookie record 950 yards and protected rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden, who passed for 3,385 yards -- another team rookie mark. Greco is the first veteran entering his final season under contract to receive an extension from the Browns new regime. "One of our goals," said CEO Joe Banner, "is whenever possible to develop and keep our own players. Were glad in this case that it worked out, and was mutually beneficial." Although he has a new deal, Greco isnt guaranteed a starting job by first-year coach Rob Chudzinski. However, Greco showed last year that hes more than competent and is definitely the front runner as camp approaches. During spring practices, Greco rotated with Pinkston and Shaun Lauvao -- last years starter for all 16 games at right guard -- but took more snaps with the first-team offence than his teammates. Greco said winning a starting job "is huge" but he isnt taking anything for granted and promised to work hard to keep the Browns trust. "John is a solid, all-around teammate, on and off the field," Chudzinski said. "He was given an opportunity to play last year and really showed well. Hes respected in the locker room for his approach, consistency and team-first attitude." Greco, 28, spent three seasons with St. Louis, which drafted the Youngstown, Ohio, native in 2008. The Rams won just three games in his first two years before going 7-9 in 2010. Greco senses the Browns are on a similar plane to make a big jump in the win column this season. He noted the Browns were young last season and that Clevelands players have done some growing on and off the field. "Its a completely different feel," he said. "You can tell its ripe for a push to win some games. Thats the mindset and attitude going into camp." ---- NOTES: The Browns also signed free agent WR Naaman Roosevelt, who played 16 games the past three seasons with Buffalo. He has 25 career receptions for 396 yards with one touchdown. Roosevelt will be reunited with former Bills WR David Nelson, who signed as a free agent with the Browns earlier this year. Nelson will start camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list as he recovers from a knee injury that kept him out all of last season. On Monday, Nelson appeared to trip while making a cut on the Browns indoor turf. He was checked by a trainer and continued his workout. ... Banner will meet with the media on Wednesday. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee finally ended its pattern of slow starts. The Volunteers hope that sets the tone for a fast finish.Joshua Dobbs connected with Josh Malone on two of his three touchdown passes and John Kelly scored on a 73-yard run Saturday as Tennessee snapped a three-game skid in a 55-0 blowout of Football Championship Subdivision program Tennessee Tech. The Volunteers produced six touchdowns and one field goal in their first eight possessions and posted their largest margin of victory since a 63-7 triumph over Western Kentucky in 2009.Its something weve harped on all season, Dobbs said of the slow starts. So it was good to come out and play fast at the beginning of the game and then sustain that throughout the first half and throughout the entire game, really. The lopsided victory followed a tumultuous stretch for Tennessee (6-3). The Volunteers fell 24-21 at two-touchdown underdog South Carolina last week, and Tennessee coach Butch Jones announced Monday that leading rusher Jalen Hurd had left the team.Yet Jones insisted after the game that there was no drama inside our building this week even as the Vols bounced back from their lowest point of the season.Instead of feeling sorry for themselves, they came in with a mental focus and mindset to get better and improve, Jones said. I thought our energy was outstanding.Dobbs completed his first 11 passes and ended up 12 of 13 for 183 yards before exiting with about five minutes left in the second quarter. The Vols had been outscored 83-24 in the opening quarter of their first eight games, but they led 21-0 after the first period. Tennessee extended the margin to 28-0 when Dobbs threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings on the opening play of the second quarter.Tennessees first two series ended with touchdown passes of 30 and 43 yards from Dobbs to Malone, who had five catches for a career-high 112 yards. Tennessee reached the end zone on each of its first four drives. They made those big plays early, Tennessee Tech coach Marcus Satterfield said. That really put us in a hole.Kelly made his first career start and ran for 104 yards on jjust seven carries against Tennessee Tech (3-6).dddddddddddd His 73-yard burst through the right side of the line in the first quarter was Tennessees longest run from scrimmage since LaMarcus Cokers 87-yarder against Vanderbilt in 2006.Carlin Fils-aime added two touchdown runs and Marquez Callaway scored on a 62-yard punt return for Tennessee.Tennessee had additional reason to celebrate Saturday because No. 10 Florida lost 31-10 at Arkansas. The Vols can capture their first SEC East title since 2007 if they win out and Florida loses at least one more conference game.Thats one of the most spirited celebrations weve had in our locker room, Jones said. I think thats a by-product and thats all relative to the investment of everybody in our football program this week.THE TAKEAWAYTennessee Tech: The Golden Eagles controlled the ball for over 41 minutes but still failed to score as they rushed for just 60 yards on 38 carries.Tennessee: Kellys productivity provided evidence that Tennessees rushing attack will withstand the loss of Hurd.Tennessee also finally protected the football. After throwing 11 interceptions and losing nine fumbles in its first eight games, Tennessee didnt commit a single turnover Saturday.UNFAMILIAR NEIGHBORSThe campuses of Tennessee and Tennessee Tech are separated by only about 100 miles, but this marked the first meeting between the two teams since 1951. This marked the fifth ATS loss for Virginia in its past six games.Final score: Georgia Tech 31, Virginia 17 (Georgia Tech covers)?SundayJacksonville Jaguars at Detroit LionsClosing line: Lions -5The Jaguars came into this game with a 7-2 ATS record as an underdog of more than a field goal since last season. That trend looked like it was about to continue, until an excruciating final drive by the Lions. After a Jacksonville punt with a little more than eight minutes left, Detroit had the ball and a 23-19 lead. The Lions would proceed to go a drive that must have made anyone who bet the Jaguars go crazy. Two plays in particular are still haunting those bettors. On fourth-and-2 from the Jacksonville 46-yard line,?SenDerrick Marks?was penalized for encroachment to extend Detroits drive. The other play came on third-and-5 from the Jacksonville 36-yaard line, when the Lions were a first down away from being able to run out the clock.ddddddddddddThey got the first down, but Theo Riddick stopped the clock by going out of bounds. Four plays later, Matt Prater nailed a 43-yard field goal to put Detroit up seven with 22 seconds left. The Jaguars were outscored 10-0 in the final quarter.Final score: Lions 26, Jaguars 19 (Lions cover)?Chicago Bears at New York GiantsClosing line: Over/under 41.5After opening at 47.5, the over/under for this game moved all the way down to 41.5 by kickoff. Heavy winds were expected at Metlife Stadium, and that turned out to be a huge factor in this one. Playing without key offensive starters in Alshon Jeffery and Kyle Long, the Bears started strong, scoring on their first three possessions. Chicago led 16-9 at halftime, with the total on pace to go over.In the second half, the Giants scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and took a 22-16 lead with 6:49 left in third quarter. Why the weird score? Well, the teams combined to miss three extra-point attempts, including two by former Chicago kicker?Robbie Gould. Connor Barth?-- the Bears current leg -- added a missed field goal attempt early in the fourth, and that proved to be the last scoring opportunity for either team. The game ended with a 21:49 scoring drought, causing bettors who took the over to fall 3.5 points short of cashing their tickets.?Final score: Giants 22, Bears 16 (Total goes under)?Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles RamsClosing line: Pick emJared Goffs first start will be a tough one to forget if you took the Rams. Los Angeles led 10-0 and was driving into Dolphins territory late in the game. Faced with a fourth-and-1 with 6:45 left, coach Jeff Fisher elected to kick a field goal instead of going for it. At this point in the game, ESPNs win probability model gave the Rams more than a 97 percent chance to win.Thats when it all went downhill. Greg Zuerlein missed that 48-yard field goal attempt off the left upright, and then Miamis offense came alive. Ryan Tannehill led a pair of touchdown drives in the final minutes to give the Dolphins an improbable win. Not only will Fisher be blamed by those who bet on his Rams on Sunday, but the loss marked the 162nd of his career, tying him with Tom Landry for the second-most defeats in NFL history.Final score: Dolphins 14, Rams 10 (Dolphins cover) ' ' '

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There is no script. In fact, the first time J.T. Barrett stood up in front of his teammates, fists punching the air and voice rising, there wasnt even a plan for him to speak at all.He was just a redshirt freshman preparing to make his first start for Ohio State in a neutral-site game against Navy. Barrett had the starting job for less than two weeks, and there was no reason for the Buckeyes to change their pregame plans from the previous seasons or carve out any time for an untested quarterback.I dont remember what I said, but I remember standing up on a chair, said Barrett, now a redshirt junior. Before that, it was always [then-Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom] Herman -- he would say something and then we left. I dont know what happened, I just felt like I had something to say.Come to find out, Ive always got something to say.Every game since then, whether hes injured or healthy, struggling or setting records, starting or coming off the bench, the Buckeyes have come to expect their final dose of motivation from Barretts mouth. And hes more than happy to oblige, as loud as he possibly can.We dont have enough juice, and what I dont understand is, we dont have another day. We dont have another second, we dont have another minute to waste. Theres not going to be another 2016 team. Theres not going to be another game against Rutgers. We dont get a do-over. Weve got to find some juice, weve got to find something, because were not going to do that to them. Ill be damned if we do that to our seniors. Not today. Were going to play like its the last time -- every time. -- Oct. 1 speech vs. RutgersThe word was spreading throughout the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, but Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was having a hard time buying it.Barrett is one of the most soft-spoken players on his roster during the week, an introspective kid with a low voice that even to this day can be difficult to pick up on a microphone during his frequent media appearances. But over and over, Meyer was hearing about the oratory skills of the first quarterback he recruited and signed after arriving at Ohio State and the leadership he was already providing even from his low perch on a crowded depth chart.Thats what I heard, but I didnt see that much, Meyer said. Coach Herman would tell me about it, his high school coach [Jim Garfield] would tell me about it, [strength coach] Mickey Marotti would tell me about it. And I said, Really? He had the ACL injury when he got here, he was a nonfactor in 2013 and I really didnt know him very well. But I kept hearing about him, though.I would see this very introverted, quiet guy and just go, Really? But I trust the people telling me, and I certainly see it now.Theres no way to avoid it at this point, and Meyer has seen it countless times since. But the legend was growing way back then as his staff whispered about a speech to fellow recruits during a campus visit. Marotti raved about the way Barrett attacked workouts and tried to motivate those around him, even at such an early point in his college career. And Garfield had numerous examples he could point to from his own experiences with Barrett at Rider High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. It was always the pregame speech, Garfield said. We would always come in before warm-ups and J.T. would have free rein. Really, I cant focus on just one that stands out, because it was throughout his career, and he was doing that for us since his sophomore year.Everything he says was like gold.Listen up, listen up -- 2014 was not a mistake. It wasnt a mistake. That happened because we were real. We are Ohio State, thats what we do. We go to peoples places, we lock that s--- up and then we leave. We lock it up and then we leave, every single time. Thats what we do. Were going to hit them in the mouth, every single time. -- Oct. 15 speech at WisconsinThere is no rehearsal during the week, no notecard to read off, and even in the final moments before Barrett takes his stage in front of the offense, no firm idea exactly what message he needs to deliver. But he reads the room, trying to figure out exactly what the Buckeyes need to hear while also opening up about his own feelings. So when the time comes, the words spill out in a rapid-fire delivery as soon as offensive coordinator Ed Warinner barks, What you got for us, J.T.?The first time I did it, yeah, I was nervous, Barrett said. Youre sitting there -- especially when I was in high school -- sitting there like, J.T., what do you say? You say youre going to speak up, but what exactly do you need to say? What are you going to say that is going to get the guys going or is really going to resonate with them?Honestly, Im like, dont worry about what youre going to say. Its important just that you know there is something that needs to be said. Thats what I think about. Something needs to be said right now, and I dont want to let the moment go by because the message is never going to be the same. I may have time to think about what Im going to say, and maybe what I could say would be really good, but its not the same if the moment passed when you needed to say it. ?That leaves the emphasis on timing, emotion and a little bit of theatrics instead of perhaps prose that could be passed down through time for its sheer beauty. The messages arent complicated, and based on ESPN.coms film study, they often include straightforward references to running the ball offensively, stopping the rush on defense, and scoring a lot of touchdowns at some point. Barrett is also a ball of motion, stalking through the rows of teammates in front of him, punching his fist or swinging the towel he usually has in his right hand. And by the end, his screams can be hard to decipher as the intensity soars and the Buckeyes break a huddle to head to the field.I mean, the football side of him, hes intense, right guard Billy Price said. When the moment is on and hes ready to go, its go time. The best thing about him, though, is he hits home. He brings the juice. What matters in our program, our culture, thats what he brings and what he emphasizes.Hes a person that when he talks, you have to stop and listen, no matter who you are. If youre just walking down High Street, youre going to want to listen. OK, I can dig what youre saying, lets go do it. Hes just dynamic. They want to talk. We bout that action. This is not what they want. I dont want you to talk to nobody in the stands. On the sideline. On the other team. Nothing. This is on us. This is us against everybody else. -- Sept. 17 speech at OklahomaThe comparisons are inevitable for any leader in a Meyer program, let alone a record-setting quarterback in the power spread offense.By this stage in his career, Barrett has officially earned the right to get the Tebow-ish tag from his coach, effectively the highest praise Meyer can bestow on somebody given Tim Tebows track record at Florida both on and off the field.Ryan Stamper has been in the locker-room audience for both QBs, first as a fellow captain with Tebow at Florida and now as a director of player development with Ohio State. And for all the similarities between the two, there are also some notable differences.Tebow, he was just a different animal, Stamper said. There were a lot of things that he led by example on the field, but there were also things he just didnt do because of his beliefs, and there were a lot of things we wouldnt do. J.T. is a leader on the field, off the field, but when you hear him drop an F-bomb or getting crunk to the same music youre getting crunk to, that makes him more a part of the boys. Thats why I think guys respect him so much.He is who he is, theres nothing fake about this kid ... [and] hes still one of the boys. To me, both messages are equally important and get guys going. If anything, Barrett might get himself too worked up by the time his speech is over. The speeches dont usually last long, and he needed only 23 seconds to make his point before leading the Buckeyes out to take on Northwestern last month. But after Barrett reaches the boiling point and his speech is done, he actually throws some headphones on with low-key R&B music or some chill Drake from his playlist to take it down a notch.I have to calm down, because I cant play like that, Barrett said. As a quarterback, you cant go out and do your job with that kind emotion. But I definitely want to make sure the rest of my guys are jacked up.Time after time, Barretts speeches do the trick. And thats one thing Ohio State can officially script in the pregame routine as long as hes around. The governing body gave the South Africa-based businessman the green light to become chairman of the Championship winners in March of last year despite his problems with tax authorities in his homeland.King, a member of the board of oldco Rangers, which was consigned to liquidation in the summer of 2012, had previously admitted to 41 breaches of the South African Income Tax Act and agreed to pay a £43.7m settlement to avoid a fine or prison sentence. Sports Direct owner Ashley, who has close to a nine percent shareholding in the club, was keen to learn how the Scottish FA had come to its conclusion over his suitability for the post at Ibrox. However, on Thursday the Newcastle United owner decided to drop his legal action after receiving information on Kings finances which the SFA used when discussing his case last May. Dave King (centre) was declared a fit and proper person by the Scottish FA A statement issued by MASH Holdings, the company where Ashley holds his Rangers shares, read: We are delighted that the wall of secrecy surrounding the SFAs decision to declare Dave King a fit and proper person is finally crumbling. As a result of legal action concluded today, the SFA has been forced to divulge documents in private to us that reveal the true reasons behind this controversial decision. This represents a significant victory for MASH and we believe there is a strong public interest in this information now also being made available by the SFA to all football fans. We therefore urge the SFA to come clean with the public about all its dealings in relation to Dave King. But in a statement, the SFA made it clear the information on King was cleared to be made public by the Rangers chairman himself, rubbishing suggestions its hand had been forced.ddddddddddddThe statement read: Ordinarily, we would be loath to respond to such a disingenuous statement but in the interests of transparency and accuracy, it should be made abundantly clear it was MASH who today chose to abandon their ill-founded litigation. We have been consistent all along that the process of determining Mr Dave Kings Fit and Proper request, submitted via an amendment to Rangers FCs Official Return, was conducted in the correct and appropriate manner.Indeed, at the time, we outlined the unprecedented scale of the due diligence undertaken, befitting the complexities of the consideration placed before our Board. This was released to the media and stated that this diligence involved communication with the relevant authorities in South Africa and the United Kingdom. Dave King with the Rangers board and manager Mark Warburton As part of the recent litigation process, we elected - with the consent of Mr King - to provide certain confidential information expanding on our statement. There was never any obligation for us to do so and we were certainly never forced to do so. This is a matter of fact and legal record. It is regrettable that we found ourselves in an unnecessary Judicial Review process in the first place: one that serves only to absorb Scottish footballs time, money and human resource which could otherwise have been utilised for the good of the game. The same applies to responding to these unedifying comments. Also See: Rangers video Rangers fixtures Rangers stats Sky Bet Club ' ' '

So, that was pretty much a standard season for the Pittsburgh Penguins.Sidney Crosby had five points in October, they fired their coach and won 18 of 23 down the stretch under new head coach Mike Sullivan. Then, with a rookie goalie who had spent most of the season in the American Hockey League, they never looked back, beating the San Jose Sharks in six games to win their first Stanley Cup since 2009. As for Crosby? All he did was finish third in NHL scoring with 85 points and then dominate the playoffs at both ends of the ice en route to a Conn Smythe Trophy win as playoff MVP. He enters this season fresh from an MVP turn at the World Cup of Hockey, where Canada went undefeated and Crosby led all players in points. So, whats the problem? History. And history tells us that it really doesnt matter how good you are after winning it all, the rest of the field always catches the defending champion. No NHL team has won back-to-back championships since the Detroit Red Wings did so in 1997 and 1998. And history tells us its virtually impossible, even if youre as good as the Penguins. Are they any more poised to defy history? Well, thats part of the adventure of the coming season.Best new facesDoes goalie Matt Murray count as a new face? Murray, 22, will start the season on the injured reserve list but will push Marc-Andre Fleury for starts after Murray gets over his broken hand suffered playing for Team North America at the World Cup. Other than the departure of top-six defenseman Ben Lovejoy, who signed with the New Jersey Devils, the lineup will essentially be the same one that celebrated at the Shark Tank in San Jose after Game 6. While many Cup champions do turn over a big portion of their lineup, its worth noting the Penguins relied heavily on rookie forwards Tom Kuhnhackl, Conor Sheary and Bryan Rust throughout the playoffs, even though they had spent considerable time in the AHL last season. So in some ways, they too can be considered new faces. Defenseman Justin Schultz, obtained from the Edmonton Oilers before the deadline, and Trevor Daley, who came over from the Chicago Blackhawks midseason and then missed the latter part of the playoffs with a broken leg, count as new-but-not-new faces.Biggest unknownsHow does Phil Kessel rebound from a hand injury that bothered him in the playoffs? (Though he still finished with 22 points in 24 games). Can the rookies carry on their evolution after answering the call so ably in the playoffs? Can Brian Dumoulin continue his impressive ascendancy as a top-four defender? But no unknown will be more persistent than how GM Jim Rutherford handles his goaltending. The pressure is off to start the season with Murray on the shelf. But at some point, Rutherford is going to have to determine whether he rides out the season with Murray and the much-loved Fleury sharing time in the hopes the tandem can bring home a second straight Cup, even if it means potentially losing Fleury in the expansion draft in June. Or does Rutherford try to maximize the asset by moving Fleury midseason?Sure thingsIs there anything more sure than Crosby? Seems funny to think that people were prepared to write off Crosby after his tepid start to the season. Yet by the end of the playoffs, its fair to say he was playing as well as he ever had, his attention to detail unparalleled. He then followed up with a dominating performance at the World Cup. If there is one leader who might be able to coax a second straight championship out of this group, its Crosby. As for the way this team will play, thats a given too: fast. Dont expect Sullivan or the Pens to take their foot off the gas.PredictionThe Penguins are as close to a lock to go to the playoffs for the 11th straight season as any team, but that still might not be good enough to get them the Metropolitan Division title. MOREHEAD, Ky. -- DeJuan Marrero scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to lead Morehead State in an 89-75 win over Lipscomb on Sunday.Xavier Moon and Soufiyane Diakite added 12 points apiece and Ronnye Beamon and Jordan Walker had 10 each for Morehead State, which shot 51 percent from the field and outrebounded Lipscomb 46-23.The Eagles opened the game with a 12-0 run capped by TyQuan Bittings bucket and never trailed. Marrero had a jumper and two layups during the run. Early in the second half, a 3-pointer from Walker capped an 11-0 run and made it 56-34 with 13:37 left.Lipscomb (0-2) cut the gap back to single digits with a pair of free throws from Garrison Matthews to make it 80-72 with 1:24 remaining, but Morehead State scored nine of the next 12 points to seal it.Matthews 27 points led four Lipscomb players in double figures. An expandable 6,000-seat venue, one of five outdoor fields, will be named TCO Stadium.Twin Cities Orthopedics will also construct a full-service center set to open around the same time on the sprawling suburban site, where players can go for MRI tests and consult with orthopedists.Similar in concept to The Star, the multi-purpose complex the Dallas Cowboys recently moved into, Vikings headquarters will sit on a 40-acre site designed to anchor a 200-acre development with commercial, retail and residential buildings planned over the next 10 to 15 years along with hotel and conference center space. The stadium is expected to host local high school football games and other youth activities.I think an NFL team can create that type of energy and that kind of investment, said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who attended the event.Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, free safety Harrison Smith and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell were there, too, among the 20 people on stage for a series of speeches before a parachute quartet descended on the dirt and gravel to hand deliver the commemorative shovel that Goodell used for his photo-op dig. The landings were made on the under-excavation ground that will become the outdoor practice fields. The Vikings long ago outgrew their current space that opened in 1981 in Eden Prairie, which like Eagan is suburb south of Minneapolis with a population of about 60,000.Punts hit the ceiling of the indoor practice field, and business staff are scattered among three buildings. The vacated former headquarters of Northwest Airlines was available, a site mucch closer to the airport and much larger for all of the modern amenities desired by the team to keep players in the best mental and physical shape.dddddddddddd.The new campus will include an indoor field with full-clear height for kicking, an auditorium for full-team meetings and a variety of sports-science features such as hydrotherapy machines and specialized speed-training rooms.General manager Rick Spielman took best-practice notes from a number of college team facilities to help design the space.Given the fans-ready stadium thats part of the plan and the trend around the league toward stay-at-home training, the big question for the Vikings is if or when theyll move summer two-a-day practices to their new digs.Theyve gone about 80 miles south to Minnesota State University in Mankato for the past 51 years, one of only 13 teams in the league that travel off site for camp.We havent had any discussions at all about that, Spielman said. Thats down the road, if we do move at all. I know Mankatos been great. Its been our home for 50-odd years. They do an unbelievable job down there, and thats why weve been there that long. But all of that will be determined down the road.Eagan would undoubtedly welcome such a move. Even without it, the city is eager for the elevated profile that will come from housing an NFL team.Mayor Mike Maguire beamed about the destination potential of the project, casually mentioning the hypothetical chance for people to see Bridgewater dining in an area restaurant some evening.Vikings chief operating officer Kevin Warren said players could eventually choose to live full time on the site, at either a hotel or apartment once those stages of the development are done.I think what youll see, Warren said is a lot of teams that will come after us to say, `Wow.---Online:AP NFL website: http://www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '

ARLINGTON, Texas -- When Prince Fielder announced Wednesday that a second spinal fusion surgery had ended his career, his wife, Chanel, sat in a section reserved for players, front office and family.Fielders sons -- 11-year-old Jadyn and 10-year-old Haven -- sat with their dad.No one should have been surprised. In a country in which too many kids grow up either not knowing their fathers or not having relationships with them, Prince Fielders kids are the center of his life.During their fathers three injury-plagued years with the Texas Rangers, the Fielder boys spent a lot of days hanging around the Rangers clubhouse, shagging fly balls or playing baseball with the sons of Adrian Beltre and Shin-Soo Choo before batting practice.Maybe its because Fielder knew how much fun he had as a kid hanging around clubhouses with his father, former slugger Cecil Fielder, and he wanted his sons to have the same experience. Perhaps its because Fielder had a strained relationship with his father for several years, and he wanted to ensure his family never experienced that.Fielder is reportedly no longer estranged from his father. Its clear his bond with his sons is strong.I want to thank my boys, Fielder said. No matter what, I was the best to them, and that always made me feel good. These are my two homies. My wife, she has really helped me a lot. It has been a struggle this year, and then to hear this news, for her to stay positive -- no matter what -- she wouldnt let me get down on myself at the house. She wouldnt let me mope. She would never let me feel any less about myself than I should. This season has been a struggle for Fielder, as was 2014, his first year with the Rangers. That year, he played just 42 games before he needed surgery. After hitting .305 last season with 23 homers and 98 RBIs, Fielder never found a rhythm this season. He was hitting less than .200 in June. Often, he was asked about his health.Fielder requested a meeting with Dr. Robert Watkins after an 0-for-4 performance July 18 against the Los Angeles Angels. Finally, in Anaheim, he got a few pitches to hit, and he couldnt deliver, said Scott Boras, Fielders agent. He said somethings going on. We expected some DL time, but not this.Watkins examination revealed that Fielder had significant issues.I didnt know they were symptoms, Fielder said. You got a tight shoulder, they say loosen up your biceps. Every now and then, Id go to do something, and Id feel weird.I cant explain it. When I did the test at the doctors office, he asked me to walk a straight line, and I couldnt do it. I did it, but it was too much brain involved to walk a straight line.At the examinations conclusion, Dr. Watkins told Fielder his career was over.I think you need surgery, and I wouldnt advise you to play again, he told Fielder. I wouldnt let you play again.Fielder returned home to have what he figured would be one of the most difficult conversations of his life: telling his boys that his baseball career was over.Instead, they buoyed his spirits.I came home and told them what the doctor said, and they never allowed me to feel bad. They said, Its all right, Dad, Fielder said. They didnt even break stride from video games. Im so proud of them for being that strong for me at that time.Fielder spoke for about 20 minutes Wednesday. He never mentioned his 319 home runs -- the same number his father hit. He didnt talk about his six All-Star game appearances or 1,028 RBIs or .887 career OPS. He didnt talk about winning the Home Run Derby as a Brewer in 2009 in St. Louis or in 2012 in Kansas City as a Tiger. He focused on the importance of having his family with him for virtually every important moment on the baseball diamond. All the All-Star Games with them, the Home Run Derbys. Just being able to have my wife and the kids on the field with me for the playoffs, all the celebration stuff, it happened with me, he said. Thats the biggest thing. They never missed a single great moment I had because they were always there. My wife passed out Capri Suns, and my kids passed out the oranges. It was team Fielder. They never missed anything I did that I enjoyed. As his dad spoke, Haven wiped away a tear. When the game is taken away from you like that, its not easy to handle, third baseman Adrian Beltre said. Its easier when you say, Ive had enough. Im going to go home and be with my family. When you go home because you cant do it anymore, its different, but hes not dead. He can enjoy his family and look forward to the next chapter. All of Fielders teammates attended his announcement, as did team owner Ray Davis. Fielder and Beltre have controlled the Rangers clubhouse so manager Jeff Banister didnt have to do it.Fielder was the consummate professional, a player respected by youngsters and veterans. Now, its over, after 12 seasons, five trips to the playoffs, a career batting average of .283 and a lifetime of memories that will never fade.Im going to miss my teammates and my kids getting to come to the field with me. All that stuff I got to enjoy, Fielder said. It kind of sucks because it feels like it was taken away from me a little too early. I can deal with it, but its hard for me to deal with things that hurt my kids. Then Fielder stood up, wrapped his arm around Jadyns shoulder, and walked out of the room as his son used his shirt to wipe away his tears. VANCOUVER -- Its a situation not of his making, but Bo Horvat understands the quandary he faces with the Vancouver Canucks. Until the first-round NHL draft pick proves his value to the rabid Canuck fan base, Horvat will be identified as the player Vancouver received in the trade for goaltender Cory Schneider. Trying to replace one of the Canucks more popular figures is a big load to carry, even for someone with Horvats wide shoulders. "I dont think there is any pressure," Horvat said Wednesday. "Im trying not to think about it too much. Its always going to be out there and everyone is going to be asking how I feel about it. "Im just going out there and playing my game and do what I do best. I want to focus on my game and prove I can be part of the Vancouver Canuck organization and prove to everyone they made the right decision." Only time will tell if the Horvat trade will pay the same dividends as the draft-day dealings that saw Daniel and Henrik Sedin come to Vancouver. It could also come back to haunt the Canucks, like the trade that sent Cam Neely and a first-round draft pick to Boston for Barry Pederson. For now, the six-foot, 211-pound centre with the OHL London Knights is content to be one of 38 young players attending the Canucks prospect camp this week at Rogers Arena. "Im just trying to sink in everything I learn here," said the 18-year-old who grew up in Rodney, Ont. "They are doing a great job of getting us prepared for what is coming in the future, whether its main camp or next season." Canuck general manager Mike Gillis made the decision to trade Schneider after over a year of fruitless efforts to deal Roberto Luongo and his huge contract. The Canucks dealt Schneider to New Jersey on draft day for the Devils No. 9 pick, which they used to take Horvat. Horvat fits the bill for several Canuck needs. Hes a big centre who scored 33 goals and added 28 assists in 67 regular-season games for the Knights. He also was named the most valuable player of the OHL playoffs. With many of their key players over 30 years old, the Canucks want to get younger. "Thats great to hear," said Horvat. "I know a lot of teams in the NHL are going younger now. "To hear that . . . it really makes we want to work that much harder to prove myself, that I can be in the lineup." Not every first-round pick is ready for prime time in the NHL, but Horvat confidently talks like he could play with Vancouver this year. "I feel Im ready," he said. "Theres always things I have to work on and can get better at. "I want to go out there and prove . . . I can stay up this year." The prospect camp involves the typical on-ice drills. There are also some not so typical off-ice activities like mixed martial arts training, yoga sessions and a trip up the gruelling Grouse Grind, a three-kilometre hike that climbs more than 850 metres. "It was something," said Horvat. "You keep staring at a mountain for two miles. "Its definitely a grind. Im glad I can say Ive done it now." Horvat laughed when asked about his yoga skills. "They are a little shaky," he said. "I have to start working on that and get a little more flexible. "It was a great experience. I havent done yoga like that before." Horvat was one of several prospects who visited BC Childrens Hospital Wednesday to meet the young patients and hand out hockey cards. Joining him was another Vancouver prospect who has spent time in the Canuck dressing room before. Cole Cassels, selected 85th overall from the OHL Oshawa Generals, is the son of Andrew Cassels, who spent three of his 16 NHL seasons in Vancouver. He remembers coming to practices with his father. "The Sedins were really young, they were my age I think," said the 18-year-old who had 15 goals and 43 points in 64 games last season for Oshawa. Cassels considers himself a play-making centre. "I use my teammates well," he said. "They seem to get open for me. I can put the puck on their stick. I think my hockey sense is one of my better attributes." Being a later-round pick, Cassels also knows his game needs improving. "I need to be a lot stronger," said the six foot, 178-pound native of Columbus, Ohio. "Quicker and stronger. Maybe get a little bit more selfish and shoot the puck some more." Growing up Cassels wanted to follow his father into the NHL but never thought he would end up a Canuck. "When you are young you are just dreaming about it," he said. "When you are 17 or 18, it becomes a reality. "The thought never popped in my head I would be in the same room he was." LOUIS -- Roman Polak was celebrating even before Alexander Steen scored the winning goal in Saturdays 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Theres no formula. Because its never been done before. -- Draymond Green on what the Warriors are trying to doMaybe the notion of adding the previous Most Valuable Player to the current MVP on a team that won 73 games is new, but that doesnt mean there isnt a template for superstar success, lessons to be learned from what has transpired in the past. Its all right there in Boston, where the Warriors play tonight (ESPN, 8 p.m. ET), where nine years ago the Celtics set the standard for quickly assembled star-filled teams by winning the championship in Year 1.And the secret to their winning? Losing.Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce each averaged more than 20 points per game the season before they joined forces in Boston. All of them missed the playoffs that year, though. We were tired of losing, Pierce recalled. Wed all put up big numbers the year before ... but we didnt make the playoffs.Thats why Garnett and Pierce were willing to see their scoring averages dip by about five points each, while Allens plummeted nine points. They had tasted individual success -- most notably Garnetts 2004 Most Valuable Player award -- but none of them had savored so much as a trip to the NBA Finals. So they adapted, learned how to get more from less, sacrificed for the sake of the team.We learned how to feed off each other, whoever had it going, Pierce said. We just kind of took turns. It wasnt like we said going into the game, OK this is your night. It was like once the game started, you saw it, you got a feel for it.Pierce was the leading scorer in the game 22 times that season, Garnett 15 times and Allen 10 times. While the Celtics rotated, the 2016-17 Warriors have been alternating, taking turns between Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. Each has been the game-high scorer four times this season. No other Warrior has had the honor.Durants arrival has meant more open looks for all four of their main offensive players. Only he and Curry are benefiting. Currys field goal percentage of .508 and 3-point percentage of .564 are both on track to be career highs. Durant, averaging one less shot per game than he took last season, is making a career-high 55.8 percent of his shots, bolstered by 61.8 percent of his two-point shots, a ridiculously high number for a perimeter player. In theory it should be Klay Thompson getting the boost. According to player tracking data on NBA.com, he gets 4.2 shots per game without a defender within six feet, the sixth-most wide-open shots in the league. But as Warriors coach Steve Kerr has pointed out, open looks arent the same as shots in rhythm. Sliding down a spot from second to third option can mean the shots come later in the 24-second clock and might be rushed. Or theyre taken under the duress that comes from uncertainty of when the next chance will arise. That could be why Thompsons field goal percentage is down to .441, (from .470 last season) and his 3-point percenntage is below .dddddddddddd400 for the first time in his career, at .313.Greens shooting numbers are down as well, even though 28 percent of his attempts are classified as wide open. But his defensive averages of 1.7 blocked shots and 2.3 steals per game are both career highs.I care nothing about offense, Green said. His defense has won games for the Warriors. At times its as if he is the only one putting in the work at that end of the court. The Warriors defensive drop-off over the past two-plus seasons has outpaced their offensive surge. While their points scored have gone from 110 points per game in 2014-15 to 115 last season and 117 this season, their points allowed have gone from 99 to 104 to 109.They lost their defensive anchor in Andrew Bogut, a salary cap casualty to create the space to sign Durant, and they have lost the collective buy-in on the defensive end. The scoring firepower of Curry and Durant is carrying the Warriors to victories, but they are not defending at a championship level. It might take more losing, even deep into the playoffs, to bring it out. After all, it was the loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the 2011 NBA Finals that led to Dwyane Wade formally ceding the Miami Heat to LeBron James, a key step in their winning the next two championships. That was looking in my mirror and saying, At the end of the day, what do you want out of this? Wade said. I knew that Bron coming to Miami, that he was at times looking for me, trying to make sure I get the ball, trying to make sure I wasnt left out at times. The offense went to him, but he didnt want to step on my toes. Also Im a killer as well. I want it. So I decided to come in after looking at it over the summer [and say], Just go be great. Youre the greatest player in the game right now. And just go do that. And we will follow. And dont worry about us. At the end of the day, you be great. Were going to get what we want out of this. Sometimes youve got to do that. Sometimes it takes losing to get to that point. And we got there. Both Durant and the Warriors team he joined endured the sting of blowing 3-1 leads in the playoffs last year. But they havent gone through that pain together. Will the ups and downs of the regular season be enough to forge the bond and bring out the sacrifice, or will it take more suffering?Curry, for one, insists the quest for individual accolades is over and he only cares about championships.Thats all that really matters, Curry said. And having experienced success at that and obviously defeat at that, it makes it ... the only mission that Im on. Other stuff will come out of that.Personal glory comes from the team winning. And sometimes the teams winning comes from losing. If the Warriors need a reminder, they can look up to the Celtics 2008 championship banner. ' ' '

MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester City failed to win for a fifth successive game in all competitions on Sunday, only avoiding a loss to Southampton when Kelechi Iheanacho produced a second-half equalizer for a 1-1 draw.Although Pep Guardiola is enduring a five-game winless run for the first time since his debut campaign in charge of Barcelona in 2008-09, City is top of the Premier League on goal difference.A mistake by City defender John Stones presented Nathan Redmond with the opener in the 27th minute at home. Substitute Iheanacho equalized 10 minutes into the second half with Citys first shot on target but the hosts could not find the winner.City could feel hard done by after dominating possession, particularly in the second half, and having a Stones goal ruled out for offside. Yet after opening the season with 10 successive wins, the intensity does seem to have dropped temporarily. After Wednesdays loss at Barcelona in the Champions League, Citys players needed to make a statement in response but they could not rouse themselves enough after a subdued first-half performance.Sergio Aguero was restored to the front line after his surprise omission at Barcelona, while fit-again captain Vincent Kompany made his first league start since April.City struggled to get going, with promising runs from Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane all coming to nothing. Citys lack of cutting edge suited Southampton, who struggled to gain any meaningful possession. When Southampton took the lead it came after a glaring error by Stones, who did not look up as he passed the ball back into the area in the 27th minute. Kompany was not in tune with his fellow defender and Redmond pounced, taking the ball wide of goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and scoring. The look on Stones face made clear the horror of his error, which will bring into further focus Guardiolas determination to play out from the back at seemingly all costs.Stones picked himself up and thought he had made quick amends as he raced in at the far post to tuck home a De Bruyne free-kick. He celebrated what he assumed was the equaliser with gusto but a flag had been raised for what appeared to be offside against Aguero. The frustration continued for City as Ilkay Gundogan drove wide but the introduction of Iheanacho at halftime brought a change in shape, intensity and atmosphere.Sterling was enlivened and curled a dangerous ball through the box before City claimed their equalizer. Fernandinho picked out Sane with an accurate crossfield ball and his low cross was neatly tucked in by Iheanacho. From then on it mainly became a case of Southampton digging in and looking to protect what they had, although Bravo was called upon to make one save from a Charlie Austin drive. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster kept Southampton level by palming away Gundogans effort before saving David Silvas long-range strike to secure the point for the south-coast side, which is eighth in the standings. USA Soccer Shirts . -- The proud fathers huddled near the Dallas Stars dressing room, smiling, laughing and telling stories while wearing replica green sweaters of their sons team.WASHINGTON -- The Washington Redskins are asking a judge to dismiss a former NFL players lawsuit that accuses the team and former assistant coach Gregg Williams of running a bounty program that encouraged players to intentionally injure opponents. The former player, linebacker Barrett Green, says he was targeted by the Redskins during a game on Dec. 5, 2004, resulting in a career-ending knee injury. Green was playing for the New York Giants at the time. He played for New York and for the Detroit Lions between 2000 and 2005. He filed a lawsuit earlier this year against the Redskins, Williams and the player who hit him, Robert Royal. The team said in a response filed Friday in federal court in Greenbelt, Md., that Greens claims are "utterly baseless." But, even if they were true, his lawsuit is pre-empted by an NFL collective bargaining agreement and was filed too late, lawyers for the team wrote. The team argues that an NFL collective bargaining agreement in place at the time required Green to exhaust grievance and arbitration procedures before filing a lawsuit, which he did not do. The team also says the statute of limitations for all Greens claims is three years from the time of his injury. Green said in his lawsuit he was suspicious he may have been targeted when he was hit in 2004, and team laawyers wrote he had enough information then to pursue his claims if he wanted.dddddddddddd The allegations of a bounty program came to light more recently. Redskins coaches and players told The Associated Press in 2012 that Williams offered cash rewards for big hits and other plays -- a violation of NFL rules -- when he was coaching Washingtons defence from 2004 to 2007. But they differed on whether it was a true bounty scheme that targeted specific players. Williams conduct in Washington was investigated, but didnt result in sanctions. Instead, Williams was suspended by the NFL last year for being the mastermind behind a bounty scheme at another team, the New Orleans Saints, where he was defensive co-ordinator from 2009-2011, including the teams Super Bowl-winning 2009 season. Williams is now a senior defensive assistant with the Tennessee Titans. He started his career with the Titans/Houston Oilers organization, where he coached for 11 seasons, and also was head coach of the Buffalo Bills for three seasons and defensive co-ordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars for one year. Judge Peter J. Messitte, who is overseeing the lawsuit, set a hearing in the case for Sept. 24. An entry in the case file online, however, says Messitte could decide the case on the documents alone ahead of that date. ' ' '

The 29-year-old Baines has established himself as one of the top attacking full backs in the country and was the subject of two bids from United during the last off-season. Everton manager Roberto Martinez says that keeping Baines at the club is a "massive boost and exciting for the future" because he brings "maturity and football knowledge in a very specialized position on the pitch" and an "infectious and positive influence to the rest of the squad.BOSTON -- The Toronto Maple Leafs dont know for sure if Jonathan Bernier will be a franchise goaltender. But they acquired the 24-year-old from the Los Angeles Kings with hopes of finding a long-term solution at the position. "Theres always a gamble when youre taking a young player, but we felt that the gamble was worth taking with the upside that we think that Jonathan has," Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis said. Seven years ago Monday, the Boston Bruins took a gamble, too. They sent veteran goalie Andrew Raycroft to Toronto for the rights to first-round draft pick Tuukka Rask. Now, Rask is in the Stanley Cup final with the Bruins while the Maple Leafs go into the off-season hoping that a tandem of Bernier and James Reimer can get the job done. "We feel weve got two of the top young goaltenders in the league right now," Nonis said. "I dont think you can be deep enough at that position." Former Leafs GM John Ferguson Jr. was dealing from depth in 2006. Prospect Justin Pogge had just finished a season with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League in which he went 38-10-6 with a 1.72 goals-against average and .926 save percentage, and 26-year-old Mikael Tellqvist was also in the system. Rask was the Maple Leafs pick at No. 21, and though he was ranked high, he represented something of an unknown.ddddddddddddSo much so that when the Raycroft trade happened, Bruins interim GM Jeff Gorton considered taking forward Jiri Tlusty instead. "It was like Tlusty or Rask for Raycroft," said Peter Chiarelli, who became Bostons GM in July 2006. "There was a lot of discussion at both ends about it. It was decided that it would be Rask from Bostons end." Raycroft gave up the most goals in the NHL in 2006-07 and lasted only two seasons in Toronto. Rask was Tim Thomas backup on Bostons 2011 Cup-winning team and is now a legitimate elite goaltender. At the tale end of a long playoff run with the Bruins, the trade is far from Rasks mind. "I was just happy to be part of any organization at that point," Rask said. "Maybe they saw something." Now, the Maple Leafs see something in Bernier, who is more established at this level than Rask was then. Nonis hopes Toronto can cash in on Berniers "pedigree of success." "Hes still young and I still think that hes got a long way to go in terms of development," he said. "A lot of goalies continue to get better well into their late 20s and early 30s, and I think that thats something we can expect from him, as well." ' ' '

My memories of Max Walker go back to my days as a teenager in Year 11, when I was producing a documentary on the history of the MCG for a school media studies assignment.I hand-wrote a letter to Max via GTV-9 Publicity, asking whether he would be willing to be interviewed by me (using the schools elaborate Super VHS video camera!) about his experiences at the ground as a Test cricketer and VFL footballer. For me it was shooting for the moon, as he was well and truly at the peak of his TV fame in those days and I didnt hold out much hope that anything would come from it.Only a day or two had passed when the home phone rang in the kitchen one night while my brother and I were washing up. On the other end of the phone was that distinctive and unmissable voice. Hello Jonathan? he asked. Yes, I replied, suddenly knowing full well who it was. Yeees, its Max Walker mate, I got your letter. How are ya?My heart skipped a beat and then all I can remember is trying to shoo the family away as they tried to listen in to the conversation I was having with this national icon! Then again his voice was so strong that they could have been standing in the next suburb and still heard him. None of us could believe it, least of all me.Soon enough, though, it was down to business as the big Wide World of Sports host went on to ask me about the assignment and politely and very encouragingly told me that hed be happy to be involved. Not only that, but he would meet me at the G and could even pull a few strings to get us access to the ground for the shoot. This was too good to be true! But it was true. Dressed immaculately in a suit and tie he met me and two school mates one afternoon. He introduced himself as Max Henry Norman Walker then proceeded to help frame the interview shoot, showing us school kids the angles Channel Nine used to help capture his good side. He chuckled after that, saying that no man with umpteen broken noses could possibly have a good side!As the camera rolled, that enormous smile broke out along with an endless supply of anecdotes and gags. He proceeded to fill up a couple of tapes talking about the ground and his sporting memories at the MCG from playing under the legendary Norm Smith to the Centenary Test.He was insightful, funny and supportive and for that reason I will never forget that afternoon or his generosity. He even signed my school diary with the words, Well bowled Jono. Hope you get a good mark. Thanks to Max thats exactly what happened. In later years I crossed paths with him when I became involved with cricket through work. Each time I saw him I thanked him for that afternoon. He laughed by saying that he was happy to be a part of it, but was still waiting for his appearance fee, which was accumulating interest.I will always think fondly of the great Max Walker. Not for the fact that he was a gun Australian Test cricketer, a ruckman for my beloved Melbourne Football Club, or a loveable TV personality, but for that fact that he was a wonderful human with a great heart. I will miss him. Toronto has dropped games to Indiana and Miami since a five-game winning streak and closed out a three-game road trip at 1-2. September, wow!Last month was a truly unforgettable one and when Tyson Fury announced that he was walking away from boxing, cursing the sport that made him a millionaire and retired three days into October, it only added to an extraordinary time. However, three hours later he said that he was only joking.Furys false retirement came less than two weeks after he tested positive for cocaine during a routine drug test and then withdrew from his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, which was scheduled for Oct. 29 in Manchester. It was not even the most disturbing piece of news in September, just part of a long, long month in the British boxing business. It is too easy to forget Fury is just 28 and unbeaten in 25 fights. He could still be stripped of both his WBA and WBO heavyweight title belts, and face a ban from the British Boxing Board of Control, but it had looked as though he would leave the sport on his own selfish terms -- and it was disappointing for an hour or two. However, its hard to understand how anybody in the boxing business could applaud his departure and there was some celebrating and a lot of I told you so going on.The proper news arrived just before midnight last Friday when it was confirmed that Iron Mike Towell had died after losing -- his first loss in 13 fights -- in an eliminator for the British welterweight title. Towell was stopped in five rounds by Dale Evans on Thursday night in a fight at a hotel in Glasgow. He was 25 and the first boxer to die in a Scottish ring since October 1995. He was the first boxer to die in a British ring since 2013 and only the fifth to die in a British ring since 1986. However, there are no statistics that reduce the pain his loved ones are facing. The Towell death and the Fury anarchy did their best to steal the headlines from three relentless September weekends of world title fights when just under 80,000 people paid to watch British boxers battle against the odds. During JJune and July, when the trio of fights were first announced, it all seemed a little whimsical and I was convinced that one or more would collapse.dddddddddddd I was, thankfully, wrong. It started with Gennady Golovkin defending his title in front of 19,000 at the O2 in London against Kell Brook. It was a brutal fight, an unexpected slugfest that ended in round five when Dominic Ingle, in Brooks corner, rescued his fighter. Brook had gained too much weight and will return, so he claims, to welterweight, a full 13-pounds lighter. Brook suffered an injury to his orbital bone and had surgery two weeks later when the swelling had gone down. Kells surgeon went up through his gum, his front teeth, moved an eye to one side and then sorted out the fracture, said Ingle. Brook, amazingly, was back in the gym before the month had ended. The following week 51,400 watched Liam Smith lose his WBO light-middleweight title in round nine to Saul Canelo Alvarez in Texas. Smith was down three times and still fighting at the end. He is angry that he got caught with the final sickening left hook, which landed with finality under his right elbow and sent him down for the full count in round nine. The fight was going how I wanted it to go, he said.To complete the trio of nearly nights, the Manchester Arena did all that it could to help Anthony Crolla retain his WBA lightweight title against the Venezuelan fighting magician Jorge Linares. It was not enough and after 12 fantastic rounds Linares was the new champion and at a third weight. Crolla was exhausted, close to the limits of collapse when it was over.October will be busy, but there was something different about September 2016. The three defeated headliners will be back. And so, I suspect at some point, will be Fury, who in many ways was the months biggest loser. ' ' '

Rob Baxter insists Exeter must look at Sundays Aviva Premiership opponents Bath to see the ingredients missing from their own game this season.Successive defeats in Europe have all but ended the Chiefs hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions Cup, while on the domestic front they have posted only two victories in six outings.Last season they reached the knockout stage of both competitions, but Baxter knows Exeter have lacked intensity this term.Bath have a lot of resilience and that is a great quality to have - probably the quality we have lacked this season, if we are honest with ourselves, Baxter said. You can see they look very confident in themselves and that is often the best indicator of a team. They are happy to play effective rugby and dont feel they have to play end-to-end stuff.A last-gasp 19-18 defeat by Ulster last weekend has convinced Baxter, however, that Exeter are nudging themselves back on track.I think were seeing the team improve bit by bit, Baxter said.As a team I want us to take lots of little steps over the course of this season and not talk about all of a sudden there needs to be some kind of miracle because sport is not like that. What we have to be prepared to do is work very hard and take lots of little steps, not just as individuals, but as a team.Ulster was an intense game of Champions Cup rugby, which it went right to the wire. For me, that shows how close we are.Obviously you always want accuracy, but the key foundations of us being a bit angry and a bit intense were there whereas they werent the week before.Bath, beaten Premiership finalists in 2015, have been reborn under new head coch Todd Blackadder and among the reasons behind their success has been the form of wing Semesa Rokoduguni.Rocco is one of those X factor players, but hes smart and intelligent as well, Blackadder said.Hes a mature guy so hes not going to do anything erratic. Australias deplorable batting displays in Sri Lanka have apparently cost Jackson Bird a place in the Test team, after the South Australia seamer and lower order batsman Joe Mennie vaulted several other contenders to take the last place in the squad to face South Africa in the first Test at the WACA Ground. In a call that the selection chairman Rod Marsh was moved to justify, Bird was omitted despite bowling well for Australia on his last appearance in the Tests in New Zealand in February, and being part of the squad that travelled to Sri Lanka. It was there that Steven Smiths side were repeatedly rolled by the home sides spinners, with the tail unable to pick up the slack as it often had in the past.Declines of 5 for 66 and 5 for 21 in Kandy, 5 for 26 and 5 for 64 in Galle and 5 for 26 and 5 for 37 in Colombo recalled the days when the West Indies pace attack used to rattle through the Australian tail, leaving Marsh to suggest that Mennies more serviceable record with the bat had squeezed him ahead of Bird.I talked to Jackson again this morning and I said to Jackson the thing that probably cost him a place was his batting, Marsh said in Perth. Weve got to get runs at the bottom of the order as well, particularly against a very good attack.Mennies inclusion followed his underwhelming start to international cricket in South Africa on the recent ODI tour. Bird had been widely expected to take the spot after being a squad member in Sri Lanka and also bowling well in New Zealand earlier in the year. The selection panel has always favoured the inclusion of a bowler to deliver long spells into the breeze in Perth, and Mennies sterling efforts for South Australia last summer were enough to convince the panel he may be able to perform the same role in a Test match.[Mennie] was the best bowler in domestic cricket last summer and he continued his good work during the A series and was rewarded with a trip to South Africa, Marsh said. Hes not the greatest one day bowler, but he showed in that last one day match a little bit of the talent he has. Hes a very good length bowler and thats something that in Test cricket is of paramount importance. He bowls well everywhere because he bowls a length. Hes a dead-set professional length bowler, thats what I love about him. I think youll find hes surprisingly quick if you talk to the batsmen around the country, he hits the bat pretty hard and once again I get back to that word. Length. No-one likes bowlers that bowl a good length. As expected, Shaun Marshs return to fitness from a hamstring injury saw him retained in the batting order ahead of Joe Burns, while Peter Siddle returned to the team for the first time since he withdrew injured from the Test team during the tour of New Zealand in February. Moises Henriques was also dropped from the side that played in Colombo, as Usman Khawaja returned tot he team. Marsh was said to have edged his way past Burns by dint of hundreds in his past two Test matches, most recently the third Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, and also a strong record in both Perth and Hobart.I felt desperately sorry for Joe because I saw two of the very good innings Ive seen in Test cricket recently [from him] in New Zealand, Rod Marsh said. At Christchurch he played magnificently, got 160 in the first innings and 70 in the second dig against a pretty good attack down there. But he lost his spot in Sri Lanka and Shaun got a hundred. Shaun Marshs last two matches in Hobart and Colombo have both been hundreds. The selectors will now wait to see how the WACA pitch shapes up for the first Test before deliberating on whether or not to include the spin of Nathan Lyon, who struggled somewhat in Sri Lanka but has an exceptional record in Australian conditions. Siddle and Mitchell Starc were both considered fit after injury-interrupted lead-ins - Starc bowling only 20 overs in the Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba to prove his recovery from a deep cut to the leg suffered in training earlier this month. It was necessary that they played this round of Shield cricket, that was necessary, Marsh said. I spoke to Siddle this morning, hes bowling great, Mitchell Starc bowled 20 overs so theres nothing wrong with him, ready to go.Test squad David Warner, Shaun Marsh, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith (capt), Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Nevill (wk), Mitchell Starc, Peter Siddle, Joe Mennie, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon Nike Shoes From China . SAN FRANCISCO -- Johnny Cueto didnt see much significance in facing the New York Mets for the first time since Game 2 of last years World Series.Getting the struggling Giants back on track and into first place in the NL West was far more important to the All-Star pitcher. With San Franciscos suddenly rejuvenated offense providing plenty of help, Cueto accomplished both tasks.Cueto pitched seven effective innings and ended his six-start winless streak, and the Giants broke away late from the Mets 8-1 Friday night. This is where were going to see what kind of team we have, Cueto said through a translator after San Franciscos second straight win. Moyes side were condemned to the worst-ever start to a Premier League season after being thrashed 4-1 at home by Arsenal on Saturday.Alexis Sanchez gave the Gunners a first-half lead before Jermain Defoe scored from the spot to give Sunderland hope, but goals from Olivier Giroud and a second from Sanchez sealed all three points for Arsene Wengers side and left the Black Cats rooted to the bottom of the Premier League. Sunderland 1-4 Arsenal And Quinn, speaking on Sky Sports, thinks Sunderland need to move away from the passing game Moyes is trying to implement. David Moyes urges on his Sunderland side against Arsenal When asked where the defeat to Arsenal leaves Sunderland, Quinn said: Most people will think doomed. Theres a lot of soul searching to do.Personally, I think they need to revert back to the type of game Sam Allardyce had going on here where they had a more direct game and the players looked comfortable. David Moyes said his side are doing everything they can to turn their poor form around, but met a quality side in Arsenal They looked lost at times trying to do the passing and movement. They had a brief flurry in the second-half but quite frankly, the way its going, it feels like death by a thousand cuts the way they are playing.Theyve got to do something radical and different now and the fans would respond to a more direct approach. I just dont think they are confident enough to play this passing game that David Moyes wants them to play. Jermain Defoe (left) scored from the spot for Sunderland Quinn also thinks Sunderlands problems stem from a lack of leaders on the field, citing the way the players responded after Defoes equaliser.dddddddddddd.There was a curious incident when the penalty was scored, Quinn added. The fans celebrated and Duncan Watmore went over and tapped Defoe on the back but they went sheepishly back to the halfway line. The other players then went sheepishly back to the half-way line. Jermain defoe says the squad need to stick together after defeat to Arsenal Im looking for leadership there, Im looking for people to get the crowd going, Im looking for the centre-halves to tell the players to win every ball and press on for a winner. What happened was Giroud came onto the pitch and the game is over because there is no leadership. Theres nothing in that team to suggest they can play the type of football that David Moyes wants.Meanwhile, Thierry Henry thinks Sunderlands performances are reminiscent of those given by relegated Aston Villa last season. Alan McInally reflects on the early Premier League kick-off between Sunderland and Arsenal Moyes side are yet to win a game in the league this season and are rooted to the foot of the table with just two points to their name. When Im watching Sunderland play it reminds me of Aston Villa last year and thats not a good sign, Henry said. You come back to 1-1 against Arsenal and who knows whats going to come next but there wasnt any happiness when Defoe scored. There wasnt any desire to try and go and win that game. They have to do way more than that, they have to go back to basics. PRETORIA, South Africa -- Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee Olympian described by a judge as a fallen hero, was sentenced on Wednesday to six years in a South African prison for the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, a ruling viewed by some as too lenient. However, Judge Thokozile Masipa appeared to anticipate criticism of a jail term that fell far short of the normally mandated 15 years for murder under South African law, declaring: Our courts are courts of law, not courts of public opinion.Pistorius, who shot Steenkamp through the door of a toilet cubicle in his home in 2013, was asked to stand and face Masipa as she announced his sentence in a wood-paneled courtroom in the South African capital, Pretoria. He was calm after the ruling, embracing his aunt and tearful sister before being led down a courtroom staircase to a holding cell ahead of being taken to prison.Later, a convoy of police cars with lights flashing and sirens wailing left a side entrance of the courthouse. In the convoy was a van with tinted windows, possibly carrying Pistorius. The sentencing was the latest act of a three-and-a-half year legal drama that has often played out on live television and shown the fall from grace of a runner once viewed as an inspiration to many for overcoming his disability. Both of Pistorius legs were amputated below the knees when he was 11 months old because of a congenital defect. He made history by competing at the 2012 Olympics on his carbon-fiber running blades, and was one of the worlds most recognizable athletes.Hes a fallen hero, he has lost his career and he is ruined financially, said Masipa, who originally convicted Pistorius of manslaughter, a ruling that was overturned by an appeals court that instead convicted him of murder and sent the case back to her for sentencing. In explaining the sentence, Masipa said there are substantial and compelling circumstances to show leniency toward Pistorius because he is a good candidate for rehabilitation, is unlikely to commit another crime and had shown what appeared to be genuine remorse over Steenkamps death.Pistorius, 29, maintained he killed Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model and reality TV star, by mistake thinking she was an intruder hiding in the bathroom early on Valentines Day 2013. Prosecutors alleged that he killed her intentionally after the couple argued.Part of the difficulty for the judge in determining an appropriate sentence was that the Supreme Court convicted Pistorius of murder with indirect intent. Pistorius was found guilty because he knew someone might die -- even an intruder -- when he shot. As Masipa noted, the Supreme Court did not find that Pistorius knew he was firing at Steenkamp.Pistorius will be eligible to apply for parole after three yeears, according to legal experts.dddddddddddd Prosecutors, who had asked that he be sentenced to 15 years in prison, can appeal for a heavier sentence but have yet to comment on whether they will do so.The family accepts the judgment, Anneliese Burgess, a spokeswoman for the Pistorius family, said outside the courthouse. The Steenkamp family did not criticize the sentence. The family has said it before they wanted the law to run its course. It has done so. No further comment. They will keep a dignified silence, said Dup de Bruyn, the Steenkamp family representative.Legal expert Marius du Toit described the sentence as lenient but not wrong. Some people who gathered outside the courthouse were critical. The law didnt take its course, said Dukes Masanabo, a South African sports official who had hoped Pistorius would be sentenced to 10 to 12 years, not six.He said the sentence is too light because Pistorius was sentenced to almost the same sentence -- five years -- for his earlier manslaughter conviction. He served one year of that sentence before being placed under house arrest at his uncles mansion in Pretoria, and he had some freedom of movement outside the home during certain hours. The time that Pistorius already served in prison is not subtracted from his new sentence, which may have contributed to the judges relatively lenient decision, say legal experts.Another South African, Sarah Maete, said she wanted Pistorius to get the full 15 years in prison for murder. Its not enough, she said.In delivering her sentence, Masipa referred to the difficulties she faced in deciding a sentence that satisfies every relevant interest in a case that captured the worlds attention and led to extremes of opinion over the celebrated athlete. She noted that Pistorius had fired four times -- not once -- through the closed toilet door and spoke of the devastating effect the crime had on Steenkamps family.Ultimately, mitigating circumstances outweigh the aggravating factors, the judge said.Steenkamps parents, Barry and June, were present in the courtroom, which was packed with relatives of both Pistorius and Steenkamp, journalists and other observers.Pistorius defense lawyers had asked for no jail time at all, saying he should be allowed to do charity work with children.Ulrich Roux, a South African lawyer and commentator who is not involved in the Pistorius case, said it had opened a window for South Africans into how their justice system works, including cross-examination and how a judge reaches a decision. He said: Its been a huge learning curve for our society.---Imray reported from Somerset West, South Africa. PARIS -- Defending champion Paris Saint-Germain warmed up for its Champions League match against Arsenal next week with a tepid 1-1 home draw against Saint-Etienne on Friday night.Life after star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is proving complicated for PSG, which has taken one point from two matches following a 3-1 defeat at Monaco before the international break.PSG opened the scoring with a penalty from Brazilian winger Lucas midway through the second half, but paid the price for poor defending when Slovenia forward Robert Beric equalized in the third minute of injury time.Of course were disappointed when we play like that in front of our home fans, Lucas said. But we need to be very patient. Were still a very good side.PSG will need an improved performance against Premier League side Arsenal on Tuesday. At Parc des Princes, winger Hatem Ben Arfa missed a good first-half chance for a PSG side that is rebuilding without Ibrahimovic, who has joined Manchester United, and under new coach Unai Emery, who replaced Laurent Blanc.PSG won back-to-back trebles under Blanc, but he was fired after PSG failed to progress beyond the quarterfinals of the Champions League.Since Qatari investors QSI took over five years ago, hundreds of millions have been invested on players -- but PSG has not reached the last four of Europes most prestigious competition since 1995.Keen to improve PSGs chances in Europe, president Nasser Al-Khelaifi replaced Blanc with Emery -- who last season guided Sevilla to a third straight Europa League title. Were looking at what the coach wants to change and what he wants us to do, Lucas said. We must improve quickly because the league is difficult. You cant drop points at home.Considering its wealth, PSGs recruitment was fairly modest and the players who left grabbed more headlines than those who came in. As well as losing Ibrahimovic, who did not sign a new contract, Emery sold versatile defender David Luiz back to Chelsea, depriving PSG of two of its key players.Emery signed Ben Arfa from Nice and 23-year-old Spanish forward Jese from Real Madrid. But Jese started only 14 league games for Madrid in the past three seasons, and was arguably not a big loss.Gritty Poland midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak was signed from Sevilla while right back Thomas Meunier joined PSG from the unheralded Belgian league.Hardly inspiring signings.Meunier was involved in the mix-up that led to Saint-Etiennes last-gasp equalizer as panicky PSG failed to deal with a routine cross from the right. We shouldnt concede a goal like that, Lucas said. We know that we must improve. Stitched Pirates Jerseys . I just havent had the results. You just simplify, keep working, trust your preparation in the cage and how its going to translate to the field. It translated well enough for Story to join Dave Kingman (1972) and Albert Pujols (2001) as the only NL rookies to hit 21 home runs prior to the break.Any time youre with guys like that, its an honor. To have done what theyve done, its pretty cool, Story said.Rockies manager Walt Weiss saw Story making strides at the plate as his hand injury improved. Its good to see him swinging the bat, Weiss said. I felt like even though he hadnt gotten many hits the last few games, I saw better at-bats. He really hit those two balls tonight. Thats all you can ask for as a player. It was good, it was the truth and I needed to hear it. My point of view right now is I can only go up from here.Reynolds led off the second with his ninth home run, and in the third, with LeMahieu and Carlos Gonzalez aboard, Story drove a 3-2 offering from Morgan into the left-field bleachers for his first homer of the game and a 5-1 Rockies lead.Story put the Rockies up 6-2 in the fifth with his second homer.Reynolds keyed Colorados five-run burst in the seventh with his bases-loaded double.Bettis allowed two runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.GET OUT THE VOTEWith fan balloting for the final NL All-Star berth nearing a close, Story made his pitch for last-minute votes with his big night.
