During the season Larry Ogunjobi Color Rush Jersey , we post weekly power rankings. In the offseason, we pretty much do whatever. This year, we’ve decided to dispense with ranking all 32 teams and to focus on the teams currently at the bottom of the stack. And even in this time of propaganda, the reality in a 32-team, zero-sum league is that some teams will be good, and just as many will be bad. This following list is far from scientific. It’s a qualitative assessment of where the franchises currently are, and where they’ve been, both recently and in some cases historically. The list isn’t a prediction as to where these teams will finish in 2019. Several of them could make the playoffs. And maybe one will make it to the Super Bowl. Still, for now, when considering the league’s teams from top to bottom, there necessarily has to be teams from 21 through 32.And here they are, from 32 to 21.1. Cardinals: Not long ago, they were one of the best eight or so franchises in the NFL. But a free fall in recent years has depleted the roster, with millions wasted in an effort to replace Carson Palmer, an embarrassing “extreme DUI” arrest and jail time for the franchise’s top executive, a trade up one year ago to get Josh Rosen followed by a trade of Rosen for a low second-round pick because the coach who replaced a one-and-done misfire coveted someone else at quarterback, and (most recently) news that G.M. Steve Keim has never bothered to call Rosen during or after three months of dangling and a few days of rollercoastering along with the six-game suspension of the team’s most recognizable defensive player for taking a PED, taking a masking agent to hide the PED, and getting busted on both counts. They’ll need Kyler Murray to have a Mahomes-Mayfield-style impact to avoid becoming the chronic No. 32 team in a season they quite possibly will begin as the underdog in every single game.2. Jets: The decision to fire coach Todd Bowles in January and to keep G.M. Mike Maccagnan and to overpay Le'Veon Bell at a time when no one else was pursuing him in that range and to fire Maccagnan after the draft and to make new coach Adam Gase the interim G.M. has made plenty of fans long for the days of Woody Johnson and Rex Ryan. Woody’s kid brother Christopher, whose arrival actually had some rivals concerned that the Jets would turn things around, is learning as he goes, and in his trial-and-error effort to figure out how to run a football franchise it’s been more error than success. That said, the decision to trade up and take quarterback Sam Darnold could eventually eradicate the fumes of Christian Hackenberg from the building, and the Jets actually could be in position to surprise everyone in 2019.3. Giants: The plan is there is no plan, and the more they try to convince everyone they have a plan, the less obvious it is that they don’t. Everyone except those making decisions for the franchise realizes that it’s keeping former franchise quarterback Eli Manning around because of what he’s done Sheldrick Redwine Jersey , not because of what he’s expected to do. But even as they cling to Eli, they overdrafted (in the opinion of everyone except those making decisions for the franchise) Daniel Jones to eventually replace Manning, whether in one year or three years or whenever the plan-is-there-is-no-plan spinning wheel lands on Jones. Meanwhile, there’s reason to believe that Jones could be the Week One starter, if he’s as good as the Giants believe and if they remove the helmet-catch-colored glasses when evaluating the training camp and preseason performances of Jones and Manning. The fact that they traded receiver Odell Beckham Jr. after paying him $20 million for 12 games serves merely as the acrid icing on a rancid cake. But, hey, at least the Jets are still the Jets.4. Dolphins: Although being in the same division as the Patriots hasn’t helped, the Dolphins have done little to help themselves. The slide began when Dan Marino retired, and it accelerated when doctors told Nick Saban to send a second-round pick for Daunte Culpepper and his wrecked knee in lieu of signing Drew Brees and his wrecked shoulder. The Dolphins continue to grope for an answer at quarterback, and the absence of one has been the biggest impediment to sustained success. Giving up too quickly on coach Adam Gase didn’t help matters, and now owner Stephen Ross can only hope that new coach Brian Flores will bring a New England vibe to South Florida. Quickly. The fact that this franchise was once so relevant makes it even more glaring that, over the past two decades, it has plunged into the role of perennial afterthought, with periodic but fleeting exceptions.5. Bengals: Malaise has been the operative word for the Bengals in recent years. Five straight playoff runs ended with five straight wild-card losses, extending a string of playoff futility that traces back to January 1991. The organization never seems like it makes winning a priority, unless (as it seems) the organization defined “winning” as making money not competing for championships. There’s a certain pragmatism to accepting the fact that only one of 32 teams will be satisfied every year, if that’s accepted as the widespread standard for NFL success. Maybe the secret of Cincinnati’s success has been to accept that it’s far easier to turn a profit than it is to turn up in February. Regardless, this team chronically feels like it could use a new everything, from top to bottom.6. Raiders: Reason exists for guarded optimism when it comes to the Raiders, thanks to the pilfering of receiver Antonio Brown from the Steelers and a draft headlined by three first-round draft picks. But the organization continues to be mired in the funk of mostly 17 years of struggles unbecoming to what once was one of the greatest brands in football. The looming move to Las Vegas carries a vague sense of promise, but to make that happen the marriage between Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock must bear fruit in the form of great football players, sooner than later. It won’t be easy in a division headlined by a perennial contender in Kansas City and an underrated powerhouse in L.A. The current placement in the middle of the worst-franchise pack is deserved, and some would say the Raiders should be even higher (as in lower). The fact that they aren’t primarily flows from the notion that the inevitable return to glory is coming sooner than later. Even if, in reality, “later” continues to be the operative term.7. Washington: Mired in at-best mediocrity for most of Daniel Snyder’s tenure as owner, the franchise has hovered in the general vicinity of “maybe” when it comes to potential contention http://www.brownsfanshop.com/Sione-Takitaki-Jersey , but hasn’t delivered. This year’s first-round haul of Dwayne Haskins and Montez Sweat has boom-or-bust potential for Washington, which is 28 years removed from its last championship. A run of health could fuel a rebound, but the upper reaches of the operation seem to be destined to keep the team from being as good as it can be — and it’s still not quite clear how good the team can be, with or without the upper reaches of the organization holding it back.8. Buccaneers: But for the arrival of Bruce Arians, who unretired in a Hail Mary effort to salvage Jameis Winston, the Bucs would be among the worst teams in the league. They’ve struggled to sell tickets, and for good reason. In the 17 years since winning a championship, the team has languished more often than not, unable to consistently compete with the other teams in the NFC South. Ownership moves too quickly to move on from coaches, preventing the kind of continuity that characterizes the franchises that manage to make it to the postseason at least once every few years. For the Buccaneers, it’s been an extended dry spell, and but for the fading memories of a run that could have/should have yielded more than one Lombardi Trophy, the Bucs would still be spinning their wheels among the very worst organizations in all of sports. They continue to slide back in that direction, and only a major jolt from Arians will keep that from happening.9. Lions: Bobby Layne’s 50-year curse has lasted a decade longer than expected, and the Lions now must hope that the efforts of Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia to change the culture will take root before they’re gradually swallowed by the internal and, among much of the media covering the team, external acceptance of also-ran status that has kept the team from winning a playoff game for 28 years and counting. Periodic promise has yielded playoff berths but no postseason success, and the career of franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford has largely been squandered. The only question at this point is whether the team will step up before the current power structure decides to tell Stafford to step off. The answer depends on whether the Lions can incorporate sufficient Patriot DNA to spark change before ownership decides to press the restart button prior to the effort to embrace a shot at greatness taking root.10. Broncos: Yes, they’ve won three Super Bowls, including their most recent trophy only three years ago. But a sustained run of relevance has been replaced by a sharp plunge to the bottom made even more conspicuous by the fact that, for the first time since the early 1970s, the Broncos have had a losing record for consecutive seasons. While a decorated history spared Denver from being closer to the top of the list, three years of post-Peyton flopping in the boat have earned them a spot in the bottom 12. Whether they remain there depends on whether Vic Fangio is the answer at coach (he very well may be), whether Joe Flacco is the answer at quarterback (he very well may not be), and whether the linger intra-family Willie Wonka competition for control of the team is ever resolved (at times it feels like it never will be).11. 49ers: Those five Super Bowl trophies are getting lonelier and lonelier. Things simply haven’t been working for the 49ers since the “mutual parting” with Jim Harbaugh. Last year, expectations were too high Greedy Williams Jersey , and injuries derailed a season that may not have resulted in a playoff berth anyway, given the presence of the Rams and Seahawks in the division. This year, expectations are high once again, which will make another failure for a team in perpetual turmoil even more noticeable. The 49ers would be wise to stay the course with Kyle Shanahan, who has four more years remaining on his contract, but another sub-.500 season should provoke serious soul-searching regarding the best way to dig out of a protracted funk.12. Browns: Speaking of protracted funks, the Browns would have been the clear-cut No. 1 team on this list a year ago, with an 0-16 season in 2017 preceded by 1-15 in 2016. A surprising turnaround in 2018 has them on the brink of escaping — but as their coach would say they haven’t won anything yet, including a path out of the bottom dozen franchises in the league. While all indications are that the Browns have the players to turn things around (starting with Baker Mayfield, who may end up with a full mantle of MVP trophies), an unproven coach was hired in January, and ownership that has proven to be far too meddlesome remains. So before penciling the Browns in for a division title or a Super Bowl berth, the first step is to have the kind of season that will get them to be considered to be in the upper half of a 32-team league. Here’s hoping they do. The transition in Green Bay is going well. Unless it isn’t.Quarterback Aaron Rodgers doesn’t seem to be thrilled with the fact that new coach Matt LaFleur’s system entails little freedom at the line of scrimmage for the guy who gets the snap.“I don’t think you want me to turn off 11 years Aaron Rodgers Jersey ,” Rodgers tells Mike Silver of NFL Media in a story that Silver says is coming early this week. “There’s stuff that not many people in the league can do at the line. That’s not a humble brag. That’s just a fact.”For starters, it’s not a humble brag. It’s just a brag. And it also may be a fact. But it’s not a fact that has caused LaFleur to changed his planned approach, apparently.Rodgers’ comment would be an attention-grabber even without his history of passive-aggressive interactions with former coach Mike McCarthy. It also represents the first indication of something other than unconditional and unequivocal submission to the new offense that LeFleur has brought to town. And the decision to make the remark to a reporter could create the kind of friction that may eventually be reported and then loudly denied by Rodgers and the Packers. But this is how it goes with Rodgers, who often rattles off with a wry smile and a periodic Southern-sort-of accent the kind of dirty-laundry-airing comments that few other quarterbacks would ever make. All of this stuff should be kept behind closed doors Randall Cobb Color Rush Jersey , and most quarterbacks approach things that way.As the proprietor of an establishment that publicizes and analyzes remarks like this, however, I’m not complaining about Rodgers letting us know what he doesn’t like about the new offense. Even if he may not like the fact that people are noticing and interpreting the words he has chosen to utter. How did the Broncos decide they needed to move up to the 42nd overall pick to draft quarterback Drew Lock? It may have been related to the teams that owned the 43rd and 44th picks. The Lions had Pick 43 and the Packers had Pick 44, and both teams visited with Lock before the draft. The Broncos may have believed they had to get to 42 in order to take Lock.Detroit isn’t looking to move on from Matthew Stafford this year https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Corey-Linsley-Jersey , and Green Bay isn’t looking to move on from Aaron Rodgers this year, but both teams may be looking to get younger and cheaper at quarterback sooner rather than later. Drafting Lock and observing him in practice for a year before deciding whether he’s ready could have been the plan.Instead, Lock will head into his rookie season as Joe Flacco‘s backup, and will see if he can prove himself worthy of being the Broncos’ quarterback of the future.

RENTON Tre Flowers Color Rush Jersey , Wash. (AP) — Jordan Simmons was basically an unknown when the Seattle Seahawks claimed him off waivers from the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 2.He’d barely played in college at USC due to injuries. His NFL tape was limited. But Seattle offensive line coach Mike Solari saw tools he could work with. Solari saw strength and footwork that created a good foundation, and knew the rest could be taught and developed.Solari has done a lot of teaching this year and it’s paying off. After several seasons of Seattle’s offensive line being a major problem, it’s become a solid position group that is clearly not the weakness it’s been in the past. And the line’s overall performance is part of the reason Seattle’s on the cusp of a postseason berth heading into Sunday’s game at San Francisco.“It’s the whole unit working together as one,” Solari said. “They’re just getting better. It’s exciting how they are coming along and come together functioning as one.”At times in previous seasons, Seattle couldn’t run the ball effectively. Other times, the Seahawks couldn’t adequately protect Russell Wilson. Too often it was a case of both happening in the same game. That has changed. Seattle is the No. 1 running team in the NFL. The Seahawks have the most carries and are the only team to reach the 2,000-yard mark — exactly — after 13 games. They’ve also done an adequate job of protecting Wilson outside of the first two weeks, when he was sacked six times each by Denver and Chicago. Since the start of Week 3, Seattle has allowed just 27 sacks, tied for 13th best in the NFL. And while that’s not an astounding number, consider that during the same stretch Wilson has the second-highest passer rating of any quarterback in the league.“They all can play and carry their own,” coach Pete Carroll said. “They’re smart, they know what’s going on and it’s a credit to the job that Mike (Solari) has done with these guys but it’s a very positive outlook for this group for the coming years, too.”Simmons is a small part of Seattle’s success, but he speaks to the improvement of the entire unit. The two times Simmons has been thrust into starting this season — Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams and last week against Minnesota — there was no fall off in the performance of the offensive line. It may just be coincidence but those two games Simmons has played were the two best running games by the Seahawks all season. The improvement in the run game has really highlighted how much better Seattle has been along the offensive line. The additions of D.J. Fluker and J.R. Sweezy at the guard positions and a much better season by right tackle Germain Ifedi has led to the massive jump.A year ago, Seattle ranked 23rd in the league, averaging 101.8 yards per game. A huge chunk of those yards came from Wilson’s legs. This season David Moore Color Rush Jersey , Seattle is averaging 153.8 yards per game. And in the two games Fluker missed due to injury and Simmons started, Seattle ran for 273 yards against the Rams and 214 against the Vikings.“I think it’s good I can come up and not miss a heartbeat from what we’ve been doing,” Simmons said. “But that goes to the four other guys on the line, not just me. I think with all of us being able to do the run game and get numbers like that is pretty big.”Solari has gotten the bulk of the credit for improving a unit that had stagnated under previous offensive line coach Tom Cable. But there’s been a stronger commitment to staying with the run by offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, better options at running back with Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and Mike Davis, and some creative ideas about how to make a run-first offense function. A perfect example has been the use of tackle George Fant reporting eligible as a tight end for several games and getting another big body on the line — and last week catching his first pass.“It’s a group that’s worked so hard on and off the field. They do a great job in the classroom. They do a great job in being accountable to each other and they take pride in their work,” Solari said. “It doesn’t matter who is in there. They’re working as one and it’s a credit to them.” It’s gameday for the Seattle Seahawks, as they are on the road taking on the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night, hoping to defeat the Cowboys for the third time in the past thirteen months. The two teams played in December 2017 in Dallas and September of this season at Century Link, with the Hawks winning both games. This game, however, is different for multiple reasons, with the most obvious being that it is a playoff game and the season is over for the loser. For that reason, it may be a good thing that the teams are playing in the primetime spot on Saturday night for one simple reason: all the data seems to show that when two teams that are based at least two time zones apart are playing in primetime, the western most team has a better shot at winning. I took a look at the outcome of every primetime game since 1976 involving teams that are at least two time zones apart back in December, so with the same situation arising for the Dallas-Seattle Wild Card game Saturday night https://www.theseahawksfanshop.com , let’s take a look at the numbers for the postseason. Unfortunately, the NFL only started putting playoff games in primetime starting with the 2001 season, so the data set is not robust. In fact, it’s rather small, according to the Pro-Football-Reference.com game finder there have only been 16 postseason games played in primetime since 1976. While sixteen games is indeed a small sample, it’s a season’s worth of games, so while any results will need to be taken with a grain of salt due to the small sample size, let’s at least see what it shows. Since it is such a small sample, here’s a table with the full data set. Postseason games played in primetime with two time zone or larger difference between teamsTeamDateOpponentResultTeamDateOpponentResultAnd, well, there it is. The more western team is 10-6 in these games. Unfortunately, the home teams are 12-4. So, I guess take the luck you can get and simply ignore any kind of home field advantage, because that’s what I’m going to be doing.
the regular season and one of the biggest names on the team isn’t on it.Wide receiver Odell Beckham dealt with a hip injury during the summer and didn’t appear in any of the team’s preseason games http://www.brownsfanshop.com/Austin-Seibert-Jersey , but the party line was that there wasn’t anything to be concerned about for the regular season. It looks like that’s the case as Beckham didn’t merit a mention on Wednesday’s report.Head coach Freddie Kitchens said during camp that the team’s goal was to make sure Beckham was good to go against the Titans this weekend.“Odell is ready to go so, yeah, I feel good about the plan,” Kitchens said at his Wednesday press conference, via Cleveland.com.The Browns did list two players on the report. Rookie linebacker Sione Takitaki was limited by a hamstring injury and defensive lineman Devaroe Lawrence was a full participant despite a shoulder issue. BEREA, Ohio (AP) — John Dorsey only traded text messages during the first round of this year’s NFL draft.Cleveland’s wheeling-dealing general manager, who has overturned his roster with numerous transactions over the past year, was unable to pull off a deal to get into the first round Thursday night and will start the second day still holding onto his second round pick. It’s not that he didn’t try.Meeting with reporters following a long night of working the phones, Dorsey said there were three players he was willing to move up and get, but the asking price to complete the deal was beyond his comfort zone.“I thought the compensation was too rich to move that far,” Dorsey said. “I think we’re in a position now Derrick Kindred Jersey , maybe you exercise a degree of patience in this and just see. We’ll start working tomorrow, and we’re always going to work at this thing to see if we can get up there, but the compensation package was just too much for us as an organization.”And the three players he was after?“They’re all gone,” he said.Dorsey’s decision not to package the No. 49 overall pick with any of his other seven selections for a higher spot was somewhat surprising, given his track record. He’s made 17 trades — including a recent blockbuster for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. — since taking over the Browns in December 2017, bucking their laughingstock status and making them one of the league’s most intriguing squads.Dorsey was willing to trade up for the right player, but only for the right price. However, he stayed on the sideline while six other teams moved up in the first round. One of them was the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, who jumped from No. 20 to 10 and took Michigan linebacker Devin Bush. The Steelers sent the 20th pick, No. 52 and a third-rounder to Denver to climb.Dorsey said he couldn’t find the right bargain for the Browns without sacrifice.“It takes two and every time we were trying, they’d kind of say Myles Garrett Color Rush Jersey , ‘Well, you need to kick in a little bit more,’ and I wasn’t willing to do that.” Dorsey said.In his six previous drafts as a GM in Cleveland and Kansas City, Dorsey made 18 trades involving picks. So far, he’s only been an interested spectator but that will soon change.Dorsey indicated he’ll be just as aggressive during Friday’s second and third rounds.“You explore those options and then you see if you can get up there at the right price or you stay patient or you even kick back,” he said. “Now we can really get into the exercise of moving up and moving back, and we will actively be working the phones all day, all evening tomorrow.”The Browns will likely explore the market for a cornerback as only one has been taken and there several top-rated players available, including Washington’s Byron Murphy, LSU’s Greedy Williams, Temple’s Rock Ya-Sin https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Rashard-Higgins-Jersey , Notre Dame’s Julian Love and Michigan State’s Justin Layne, who is from Cleveland. This was the first time since 2008 — and eighth overall — that the Browns didn’t have a first-round selection. The outsider’s role is a new one in Cleveland, where fans have grown accustomed to early picks, and so many bad ones. After selecting Myles Garrett and Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall picks in each of the past two drafts, the prize — or punishment — for going 1-31 in two seasons under former coach Hue Jackson, the Browns came in as one of four teams without a first-round pick. They willingly gave it up when Dorsey stunned the league last month by trading the No. 17 pick to the New York Giants as part of the deal for Beckham, whose arrival has sparked wild expectations in Cleveland. The Giants used that selection on Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. And while he’s not pulled off a deal yet in this draft, Dorsey is plenty proud of his most recent one.“I’m very happy to have Odell Beckham as the 17th pick in the 2019 draft,” he said, smiling.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither the Packers nor the Titans had announced the decision. The 39-year-old LaFleur spent this season as offensive coordinator for the Titans, his first calling plays in the NFL. He takes over for Mike McCarthy Lance Kendricks Color Rush Jersey , who was fired during the season following a stunning home loss to Arizona on Dec. 2. Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin went 2-2 to close out the season as the Packers failed to reach the playoffs for the second straight year with a 6-9-1 record that was the second straight under .500 for the storied franchise. He was offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, leading a group that paced the NFL in scoring and was 10th in total offense under coach Sean McVay, who called the plays on offense. LaFleur was the quarterbacks coach in Atlanta for two seasons, including when Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was the NFL MVP in 2016. LaFleur also has coached with Washington and Houston, and was the quarterbacks coach for Notre Dame in 2014.He will be charged with returning the Packers to the playoffs on a regular basis. McCarthy’s tenure of 12-plus seasons was by and large successful, highlighted by the 2010 Super Bowl season and nine playoff appearances.Still, the once potent offense that could make up for other deficiencies slowed in 2018, a tumultuous year that began with Rodgers leading a stirring comeback victory in the opener over the Bears. The two-time NFL MVP returned after halftime from a left knee injury that nagged him the rest of the season.Rodgers’ 62.3 percent completion rate was his lowest since 2015 (60.7) and his 25 touchdown passes were a low for a season in which he played at least 15 games, though so were his two interceptions. Injuries to Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison forced the Packers to turn to rookies perhaps earlier than expected, though Davante Adams emerged as an elite receiver. The relationship between LaFleur and Rodgers will be closely watched after the sometimes tenuous moments between the star QB and McCarthy. They characterized their relationship as close https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Davon-House-Jersey , but with ups and downs that come with two headstrong competitors who had worked together for more than a dozen years. The Packers reportedly interviewed several candidates with head-coaching experience, including Philbin, Chuck Pagano, Adam Gase and Jim Caldwell. The instead opted for LaFleur, who had never called plays before this season and until now has never been in charge of an entire roster. It is just one element of an offseason of change ahead in Green Bay.Clay Matthews, one of the last remaining links to Green Bay’s Super Bowl-winning season, is a free agent after finishing with a career-low 3½ sacks in his 10th season with the Packers but the first under the tweaked 3-4 scheme installed by first-year coordinator Mike Pettine.Cobb is also a prominent free agent for Green Bay, and a steady, experienced target for Rodgers — if he returns. The running game could be a strength next season behind Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones, who led the NFL in yards per carry before suffering a knee injury in mid-December. The coordinator’s job could be in flux Bryan Bulaga Jersey , too. Philbin is well-liked by Rodgers and the 16-year NFL coaching veteran and he won respect from players for his even-keeled and straightforward demeanor in the transition following McCarthy’s firing.Pettine’s defense showed flashes in his first year on the job. First-round draft pick Jaire Alexander displayed the potential of playing like the top cornerback the Packers desperately need. Injuries struck the defensive line, which was one of the team’s strengths coming into the season, and the Packers lacked a consistent rush at outside linebacker outside of surprise sacks leader Kyler Fackrell (10½).Tennessee has changes coming, too. The Titans went 9-7 and missed the playoffs, ending the season ranked 27th in scoring and 25th in total offense while injuries took a toll. Quarterback Marcus Mariota will soon be working with his fourth offensive coordinator in five seasons.
HOUSTON (AP) — Saturday’s wild-card game between the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts is a matchup that seemed improbable early this season after Houston dropped its first three games and the Colts limped to a 1-5 start.Instead of letting their tough starts lead to disappointing years Peyton Manning Jersey , these teams which both finished 4-12 last season turned things around to lead the AFC South and charge into the postseason.Houston’s rebound began at the expense of the Colts (10-6) and it was thanks in part to a controversial call by Indianapolis coach Frank Reich in overtime. The game was tied 34-34 when, instead of punting on fourth-and-4 from his 43-yard line and likely settling for a tie, Reich called for a short pass from Andrew Luck to Chester Rogers. Luck’s pass fell incomplete, Houston got a 24-yard completion on the next play, and Ka’imi Fairbairn made a 37-yard field goal as time expired to give the Texans (11-5) a 37-34 victory.Article continues below ...“We knew that to be able to come out on the winning end of that game was a big thing for us, but that’s a long time ago,” Houston coach Bill O’Brien said. “The teams have evolved over time, so it’s a new ballgame now.”The win was the first of nine straight for Houston. The Texans didn’t lose again until a visit from the Colts on Dec. 9, a 24-21 Indy victory. Houston then won two of its last three games, capped by a 20-3 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday to clinch the division — and become the sixth team since 1980 and first since 1998 to make the playoffs after a 0-3 start. The Colts’ loss to Houston in Week 4 was the second of four straight that dropped them to 1-5. Indianapolis then won its next five and nine of its last 10 to make its first playoff appearance since a 2014 AFC championship game loss at New England. Yes, the “Deflategate” game. The Colts are the third team in NFL history to reach the postseason after losing five of the first six games. These teams have more in common than their difficult starts. They’re both led by a player making a comeback after an injury.Luck returned after missing the 2017 season with a shoulder injury to throw for 4,593 yards and rank second in the NFL with 39 touchdown passes. His best games this season have come against Houston, piling up 863 yards passing with six touchdowns.Trying to slow him down on Saturday will be Houston’s comeback star J.J. Watt, who played all 16 games after starting just eight games combined in the previous two years because of back surgeries and a broken leg. Watt led the AFC with 16 sacks, had 25 quarterback hits, 18 tackles for losses and forced a career-high seven fumbles, which tied for most in the NFL.Watt said Luck has been getting rid of the ball quicker this season, which makes his job as a pass rusher much more difficult.“You try and do different things, but at the end of the day, you try and get there, and if you can get your hands up, you get your hands up,” he said. “You just try and get there. You can’t really let it affect you, and you hope maybe he holds it for an extra second.”Some things to know about Houston’s game against Indianapolis:HILTON’S INSome of T.Y. Hilton’s most memorable moments have come against the Texans — especially when he visits Houston. The Colts’ top receiver has caught 41 passes for 933 yards with seven TDs in seven games at NRG Stadium Al Woods Color Rush Jersey , and in the last two trips to Houston Hilton has 14 receptions for 374 yards and two TDs. So even though he’s been hobbled by a bad ankle, which he initially injured at Houston on Dec. 9, Hilton insists he’ll be fine Sunday.“That’s probably why it’s starting to feel better,” Hilton joked earlier this week when asked about playing in Houston for the second time in a month.DESHAUN’S DEBUTHouston quarterback Deshaun Watson will make his playoff debut in his second year in the NFL. Don’t expect the 12th overall pick in the 2017 draft to be daunted by the challenge after he played plenty of huge games at Clemson, highlighted by leading his team to the national title game twice. The Tigers lost to Alabama when Watson was a sophomore before he helped Clemson beat Alabama 35-31 for the 2016 national championship.“It’s just another opportunity for myself and this whole team to be able to show what we’ve got and put in the work,” Watson said. “I’ve played in a lot of big games before in college and stuff, but you can’t really pit college playoffs with the NFL. This is the hardest business, top-notch. It’s a whole new season, a whole new speed of game. So it’s going to be new for me (and) it’s going to be a lot of fun.”TURNAROUND TIMEIndy didn’t just rebound from a 1-5 start to make the playoffs. It rewrote the book. While the oft-criticized offensive line allowed a league-low 18 sacks after giving up a league-high 56 in 2017, the biggest change came on defense, where the Colts were ranked No. 11. They had the league’s leading tackler, 26 takeaways, allowed only 16.4 points over the final eight games, and were one of three teams that didn’t allow a 100-yard rusher all season. The Colts know it will take more of the same to advance.“The last time we did a good job, that was great for us, but this is a new challenge this week,” Reich said when asked about defending Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins. “I’m sure they are going to try to get him going.” A look at the most impactful football free agents of all time:1. DE Reggie White, 1993 Green Bay Packers.White stunned the NFL by choosing Green Bay after a whirlwind tour in the first offseason of unfettered free agency. His arrival at age 32 signaled a new era for the Packers, who hadn’t found much success since the Vince Lombardi teams of the 1960s. White teamed with Brett Favre for a long run of success that included a win over the Patriots in Super Bowl 31. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.2. QB Peyton Manning, 2012 Denver Broncos.Manning was coming off neck fusion surgery that sidelined him in 2011 when the Colts released him so they could turn their team over to rookie Andrew Luck. Despite the uncertainty over his health, Manning was courted by several teams and chose the Broncos. He set numerous passing records in Denver and led the Broncos to two Super Bowls, losing to the Seahawks in 2014 but beating the Panthers two years later in the final game of his storied career.3. QB Drew Brees, 2006 New Orleans Saints.Brees hit the open market at age 27 after he sustained a serious injury to his throwing shoulder in the 2005 season finale. The Chargers turned to Philip Rivers, whom they had acquired in a draft-day trade in 2004 https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Erik-Swoope-Jersey , and Brees became the rare young QB to get to test free agency. He chose New Orleans, which itself was making a comeback from Hurricane Katrina. The Saints won their only Super Bowl in 2010, over the Colts. Last season, Brees surpassed Favre for most career completions.4. DB Deion Sanders, 1994 San Francisco 49ers, 1995 Dallas Cowboys. After five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Sanders went to San Francisco and helped the 49ers win the Super Bowl over the San Diego Chargers. Then he promptly left for Dallas in 1995 and helped lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Also a “prime time” kick returner, his stay in Dallas also included three first-team All-Pro honors, and Sanders was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.5. TE Shannon Sharpe, 2000, Baltimore Ravens. After winning back-to-back Super Bowl rings in Denver, Sharpe went to the Ravens and promptly won another. He had a 96-yard touchdown catch in the AFC championship game. In his two seasons in Baltimore, Sharpe broke tight end records for career catches, yards and touchdowns, all marks that were previously held by the man who signed him, ex-Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome. Sharpe was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.6. DB Charles Woodson, 2006 Green Bay Packers.Woodson was considered one of the biggest risks to hit the open market because he hadn’t played a full season in four years and only played in six games during his final season in Oakland. The Packers were his only suitors and he rewarded them with a career comeback that included NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2009 and a Super Bowl ring after the 2010 season.7. QB Kurt Warner, 2005, Arizona Cardinals. Not only did Warner go from grocery clerk to NFL MVP and Super Bowl champ while orchestrating the “Greatest Show on Turf” in St. Louis, he had another career comeback in him with the Cardinals. After starting 3-12 in Arizona and getting benched for Matt Leinart, he won back his starting job and led the Cardinals to an improbable appearance in Super Bowl 43, where they lost 27-23 to the Steelers. Enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2017.8. QB Rich Gannon, 1999, Oakland Raiders. Not much was expected of the 34-year-old journeyman when he joined a middling Raiders team and its young head coach Malik Hooker Jersey , Jon Gruden. But Gannon flourished with his fourth NFL team, making four consecutive Pro Bowls, two All-Pro teams and three trips to the playoffs. He was the league’s MVP in 2002 at age 37 and led the Raiders to Super Bowl 37 against Tampa Bay.9. WR Jerry Rice, 2001, Oakland Raiders.Although he was in the twilight of his incredible career when crossed the bay at age 39, Rice posted two more 1,000-yard receiving seasons after leaving the 49ers, finishing with an NFL record 14 such years. The Raiders’ last taste of glory came with Rice. In 2001, they lost the infamous “Tuck Rule” game against Tom Brady and the Patriots, and a year later they made it to the Super Bowl, where they lost to Tampa Bay.10. K Adam Vinatieri, 2006 Indianapolis Colts. The only player to score 1,000 points with two franchises, Vinatieri won three Super Bowls in his decade in New England, then another in Indy. The 46-year-old kicker is the NFL’s oldest active player. Last season, he broke Morten Andersen’s league record for field goals made and now has 690. He’s the league’s all-time scoring leader with 2,600 points and his 32 career playoff games are second behind former teammate Tom Brady.10a. RB Curtis Martin, 1998, New York Jets.A special category for this one because Martin was a restricted free agent. In his second season as Jets coach, Bill Parcells stunned the NFL when he signed his former franchise running back in New England away from the Patriots with a $36 million deal, parting with first- and third-round draft picks. Martin helped the Jets reach the AFC championship in his first season in New York and won the NFL rushing title in 2004 at age 31. Enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2012.
ARLINGTON Will Dissly Color Rush Jersey , Texas (AP) — A rare one-and-done for the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL playoffs. A first for Russell Wilson. These Seahawks weren’t back in the playoffs long, though they stretched out the Dallas Cowboys until after the 2-minute warning Saturday night. After missing the playoffs last year for the first time with Wilson at quarterback, and then winning six of its last seven regular-season games to get to 10 wins and back this year, Seattle stumbled in the NFC wild-card game with a 24-22 loss.“I do love being in the playoffs, and I love fighting for every inch and everything that you can do. We did that all of the way to the end tonight,” Wilson said. “We felt like if we had gotten the ball back, who knows?”In each of his first five playoff appearances, Wilson had always won a game. As a second-year quarterback five years ago, he led the Seahawks to their only Super Bowl title. They were NFC champions again the next year. The Seahawks had won at least once each of the last nine times they made the playoffs since losing a wild-card game to the St. Louis Rams 14 years ago — at the of the 2004 season when Mike Holmgren was their coach and Matt Hasselbeck the quarterback.“I mean, anytime you’re in the tournament, anytime you go into the playoffs, your mind is set, I told the guys last night four more games,” said receiver Doug Baldwin Michael Dickson Color Rush Jersey , who finished his eighth season. “You believe with every ounce of your being that you are going to become victorious, no matter what obstacles placed in front of you. … It being fresh, I’m still mourning it. Still in disbelief in many ways.”Seattle got within 24-22 with 1:18 left after a 75-yard TD drive over six plays and 50 seconds. Wilson threw a 53-yard pass to a streaking Tyler Lockett to the 13, a few plays before his 7-yard TD pass to J.D. McKissic that was followed by Chris Carson running for a 2-point conversion. With 40-year-old Sebastian Janikowski out after injuring his hamstring on a 57-yard field goal attempt that was wide right to end the first half, the Seahawks went for and made a 2-point conversion, just like they did after Wilson’s 4-yard TD run late in the third quarter to go ahead 14-10.After the late touchdown, punter Michael Dickson had to kick off. Instead of a traditional onside attempt, his drop kick went too deep and was fielded by Cole Beasley to seal the game for the Cowboys.“Anytime you get to this point, you want to win one game at a time, and see how far you can take it,” Wilson said. “You never know where it’s going to go.”This time, it took the Seahawks to the offseason. The Seattle Seahawks (9-6), they will be playing a wild card road game to start 2019, but they first have to finish off 2018 NFL regular season play against the Arizona Cardinals (3-12) Alex McGough Color Rush Jersey , who are clearly the worst team in the league. A win for the Seahawks would clinch them the #5 seed and a trip to Dallas to take on the Cowboys. If they somehow lose, which they nearly did the first time these teams met in September down in Glendale, then a Minnesota Vikings win over the Chicago Bears would put the Seahawks at Chicago. So there is still something to play for if you’re Pete Carroll’s group, and I think we’d all love to see them finish with double-digit wins when many predicted double-digit losses. Here are all the details you need on Sunday’s regular season finale, including broadcast information, live streaming options, radio commentary, and more:TV ScheduleDate: Sunday, December 30th, 2018Time: 4:25 PM ET/1:25 PM PTChannel: FOX (check NFL coverage map)Announcers: Sam Rosen and Brady Quinn (sideline reporter: Lisa Byington)Location: CenturyLink Field | Seattle, WashingtonRadio: 710 ESPN Seattle/97.3 KIRO FM (click here for additional TV and radio affiliates outside of the Seattle area)Radio Announcers: Steve Raible, Dave Wyman (Reporters: Jen Mueller and John Clayton)Online Streaming: NFL Game Pass (Free 7-Day Trial) | Sling TV | PlayStation Vue | Fox Sports GO | YoutubeTVCurrent 53-man roster: Click hereOpponent Blog: Revenge of the BirdsFollow Field Gulls on social media!Twitter - @FieldGullsFacebook - Field Gulls: For Seattle Seahawks News and AnalysisSeahawks regular season schedule 2018September9/9: L 27-24 at Denver Broncos 9/17 (Mon): L 24-17 at Chicago Bears 9/23: W 24-13 vs. Dallas Cowboys9/30: W 20-17 at Arizona CardinalsOctober10/7: L 33-31 Los Angeles Rams 10/14: W 27-3 “at” Oakland Raiders in London 10/21: BYE10/28: W 28-14 at Detroit LionsNovember11/4: L 25-17 vs. Los Angeles Chargers 11/11: L 36-31 at Los Angeles Rams 11/15 (Thu): W 27-24 vs. Green Bay Packers 11/25: W 30-27 at Carolina PanthersDecember12/2: W 43-16 vs. San Francisco 49ers12/10 (Mon): W 21-7 vs. Minnesota Vikings 12/16: L 26-23 at San Francisco 49ers 12/23: W 38-31 vs. Kansas City Chiefs 12/30: vs. Arizona Cardinals (1:25 PM PT, FOX)

Once Freddie Kitchens took over as offensive coordinator for the second half of the season http://www.brownsfanshop.com/Sione-Takitaki-Jersey , the Browns averaged better than 395 yards per game; surrendered just five sacks; averaged a league-best 6.86 yards per play; scored 25 touchdowns, tied for sixth in the NFL, among other highlights. Now with Kitchens running the offense full-time as head coach, quarterback Baker Mayfield and running back Nick Chubb entering their second season, and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. taking the position group to a new level, Cleveland’s offense has the potential to be among the league’s elite. How elite, you ask? Well, according to both Ali Bhanpuri of NFL.com and ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, the Browns should be very elite on offense in 2019.First up is Bhanpuri, who ranked each team’s top triplets - quarterback, running back and wide receiver - using a weighted points system and the Browns checked in at No. 3 in the league, trailing just the Los Angeles Chargers (No. 2) and New Orleans Saints (No. 1):Barnwell took a different approach at ESPN, as he attempted to rank each team’s skill-position talent independent of the impact of the quarterback, the quality of the offensive line or the scheme of the coaching staff, among several other factors. But the results were the same as Cleveland comes in at No. 3, trailing the Kansas City Chiefs (No. 2) and the Los Angeles Rams (No. 1):Just how well the Browns stack up to the league’s best remains to be seen, but it appears likely that at least a couple of longstanding team records will fall in 2019.Mayfield looks to be a lock to become just the second quarterback in franchise history to surpass 4,000 passing yards in a season. Brian Sipe’s team record of 4,132 passing yards, set in 1980, is well within Mayfield’s reach. The same can be said of Sipe’s record of 30 touchdown passes in a season, also set in 1980. Mayfield had 27 as a rookie despite sitting out the first two-plus games and being saddled with Hue Jackson for the first half of the season. With all the offensive weapons around him, it would be a bit of a disappointment if Mayfield does not finish the season well north of 30 touchdown passes. While the team record of 89 receptions - held jointly by tight ends Ozzie Newsome and Kellen Winslow Jr. - appears safe due to the Browns having numerous options, Beckham could still become just the fourth player to catch at least 10 touchdowns in a single season, joining Gary Collins (four times) Greedy Williams Jersey , Paul Warfield (twice) and Braylon Edwards (once). Finally, the Browns have only surpassed 400 points in a single season five times in franchise history. Ironically, the only time they managed to do it since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978 came in the 2007 season. (For those keeping score at home, the other times were in 1946, 1947, 1964 and 1966 - and in three of those years the Browns won a title.) This year’s squad should have no problem becoming just the second team in franchise history to reach that mark in a 16-game season. NEW YORK (AP) — Bert Bell was not the first NFL commissioner. He was, however, the first to make a major impact on pro football. To call Bell the father of the NFL draft would be accurate. It also would be an incomplete assessment, because Bell was a brilliant innovator who helped carry his league from afterthought to a player among American sports. The NFL ranked behind baseball and college football when Bell became the league’s second commissioner in 1946. Even boxing and horse racing were more popular.Bell’s love affair with football began when he was captain at Penn, where his son Upton says his dad threw the first pass in Rose Bowl history. Bert Bell then volunteered for the military in World War I, receiving several decorations, before returning to Penn.According to Upton Bell, his father and mother, an actress and dancer named Frances Upton, bought the Philadelphia neighborhood’s Frankford Yellow Jackets as a wedding present for each other. They soon were renamed the Eagles, and Bert Bell began his impactful career as a pro football executive. In 1935, after being burned by losing college players to other teams in bidding wars, Bell proposed a draft that took effect the next year — and has been copied by pretty much every other sport. Today, the NFL draft has spawned a cottage industry, has become a traveling show as popular as anything the NFL does outside the Super Bowl, and remains a key element to building teams.Among his other early suggestions that took root in the NFL was a more balanced schedule in which the strong teams played other such squads while the weak played the weak more often. That practice has been carried through the decades and still exists.“My father was always in favor of poor teams having a chance to catch up quickly,” Upton Bell told Ken Rappoport and Barry Wilner in the book “ON THE CLOCK, The Story of the NFL Draft.”Among his peers, Bell was one of the more highly regarded owners even though the Eagles saw little success on the field and economically. When they sought to replace Elmer Layden as commissioner, the owners turned to Bell and elected him unanimously. He immediately tackled two significant topics challenging the 10-team league: a rival organization https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Howard-Wilson-Jersey , the All-America Football Conference; and the specter of gambling hovering over the sport.Bell recognized it would take some time before the NFL-AAFC issue could be resolved. So he made his first priority establishing strong anti-gambling conduct codes to prevent scandals that occasionally plagued baseball, boxing and basketball. Two New York Giants had been approached by a convicted felon seeking to fix the 1946 title game between the Bears and Giants. One, fullback Merle Hapes, was barred from playing in it, while the other, quarterback Frank Filchock, was allowed to suit up. Subsequently, though, Bell suspended each of them indefinitely for “actions detrimental to the welfare of the National Football League and professional football.” Neither Hapes nor Filchock ever appeared in another NFL game.Wiser to the ways gamblers might influence outcomes, Bell’s office remained diligent in monitoring point spreads. Bell hired several former FBI agents to work in league security roles. As for the AAFC, Bell had been encouraged by several NFL owners to “crush” the competing league. Bell, however, saw the value in some of the AAFC’s franchises, specifically Cleveland and San Francisco. The NFL had only one West Coast team in those years, with the Rams having moved from Cleveland to Los Angeles in 1946. A California partner for them could open up an entire geographic region for the league, Bell reasoned. Given that there now are franchises in Seattle, Phoenix and, soon, Las Vegas, as well as in California, his vision was accurate.Instead of plotting the total demise of the AAFC, Bell worked a merger after the 1949 season that brought the Browns, 49ers and Baltimore Colts into the NFL’s fold. Not only did that bring peace in pro football, it brought Paul Brown into the NFL; some would argue Brown is the greatest coach and game-changing executive in league history.Bell shrugged at the notion those three franchises would be tailenders in his league, noting “these are strong teams run by strong administrators and coaches https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Bernie-Kosar-Jersey , and with very good players.”And in 1950, the Browns won the NFL championship. From 1951-54, the 49ers had winning records. Only the Colts faltered of that trio: They folded after the 1950 season, as did the holdover NFL franchise New York Yankees in 1951.That made stability something of a problem — the Dallas Texans played only in 1952 before disappearing — but Bell and several team owners worked to secure more reliable (and deep-pocketed) owners, and by 1953, when a new Baltimorefranchise entered the league, financial constancy became an NFL staple. No franchise has folded since.Although his level of achievement in securing broadcast rights fees didn’t rival his successors’ accomplishments, Bell envisioned the same thing Pete Rozelle, Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell did from the outset. He knew a solid and lengthy marriage with television was essential to prominence and profitability. While he didn’t put together a nationwide TV package, Bell did reason that blackouts of home games would help local attendance in a time when an NFL sellout was never a given. So he ordered that only road contests be televised back to home cities, and despite each franchise having its own television deal, that became league policy. In place of televising a home game, matchups between other teams — often high-profile games — were allowed.Bell also proposed sudden-death overtime for championship games so as to avoid having co-champions should the title match end in a tie. Such prescience bore fruit when the 1958 NFL championship between the Giants and Colts was, indeed, tied through four quarters. And it wasn’t a mere coincidence that the title game was broadcast nationally, though it was blacked out in New York because it was not a sellout. The NBC telecast drew an estimated 45 million viewers and would be the catalyst to the NFL’s mega-presence on network TV.Bell also was the first commissioner to recognize the NFL Players’ Association, which angered every team owner. He simply shrugged and said the union would serve the best interests of the game.“He was equally trusted by the media, the players and the owners,” Upton Bell said in ON THE CLOCK. “You would never get that again. I don’t know any commissioner today that is trusted by everyone. When was the last commissioner that actually played the game? Any sport? The turnover cost the Packers a chance to drive for a potential game-winning score. The Ravens are 24th in the league in rushing at 96.6 yards per game.Montgomery had 26 carries for 105 yards and a score in seven games. I don’t think we’d be having this conversation if I didn’t fumble the football because we know how good our two-minute offense is,” Montgomery said. “But I’ve never been a guy to completely disobey what I’m being told.”The Packers on Tuesday also made two practice squad moves, signing tight end Ethan Wolf and releasing fullback Joe Kerridge.
Every week Reggie Wayne Color Rush Jersey , I will present a summary of some basic and advanced stats for the Colts performance relative to the league. Thanks to Pro Football Reference, NFL.com and the nflSCrapR project for being awesome sources of weekly data. The relationship between an NFL offense and the defense it faces is complementary and interconnected. It is a yin and yang where each is dependent upon and defines the other. So, it is difficult to say if last Sunday was an outstanding Indy defense or a horrible Jacksonville offense. The answer may just be the sound of one hand clapping. And for those who want me to stop conflating disparate eastern philosophies, I can safely say that was Zen and this is Tao. Alternatively, we can just look at the stats and see that the defense put up some remarkable numbers.Jacksonville was allowed into Indy territory only twice all day and they earned just 11 first downs. Throw in 3 sacks and a takeaway and you get a 50% Drive Success Rate, which is actually worse than what the Jags defense did to the Colts. TEAM TOTALSOf the 384 games so far this year, a 50% DSR ranks 8th lowest and easily puts the Indy D as the best defensive effort of the week. They also finished at the top of the pile in First Down % against. The Colts held the Jags to just 0.5 adjusted points per drive, which is the second best effort for the week, eclipsed only by. . . oh right, Jacksonville blanking Indy. PASSINGGiving up a 4.9 ANY/A is actually pretty good pass defense but a lot of teams managed that this week so the ranking is just “meh”. But with 3 sacks, no TDs and just 1 explosive pass play, Cody Kessler could not move the ball through the air as only 26% of his passes earned a new set of downs (6th lowest). While Kessler did attain a high 75% completion rate, that is mostly explained by how short his passes were.1.9 avg air yards per completion was the shortest in the league this week. The last time around the Jags hung 9.9 Yards After the Catch on the Colts, but this week, it was limited to 6.4. That is still a big number but somewhat forgivable as really short passes tend to have inflated YAC. RUSHINGWith 2.9 Yards per Carry and a 18% weighted Rush Success Rate, the Colts completely shut down the Jags run game.It was the 3rd best effort of the week with the top spot going to . . . oh right, Jacksonville . . . crap. CONCLUSIONS & NEXT MATCH-UPI know a lot of people will be hesitant to give the Colts D any credit as Jacksonville’s offensewas severely hobbled. But in those situations, a good defense should keep their opponents out of the end zone and quickly get the ball back to their offense and that’s exactly what the Colts did. This coming Sunday, the defense will be tested by Deshaun Watson https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Rigoberto-Sanchez-Jersey , best known as Joe the policeman on the “What’s Goin’ Down” episode of “That’s My Momma”.Houston has been putting up basically league average numbers over the last 4 games, but they have walked away with W’s in all of them. On the year, their pass game ranks 9th in ANY/A and the run game is 25th in wRSR.So, on paper that looks to be a rough day for the Colts through the air but they should be better able to stop the run. TRAILING 5 WEEK TOTALSSEASON TOTALS (per game) NEW YORK (AP) — From a breakthrough quarterback to a unanimous choice. From two brothers to four rookies for the first time — two from the same club, no less. The Associated Press 2018 All-Pro Team has something for everyone.Patrick Mahomes and three other Kansas City Chiefs players made the squad Friday. They were joined by the first rookie teammates since 1965 — Colts guard left Quenton Nelson and linebacker Darius Leonard. The last time that occurred it was two future Hall of Famers, the Bears’ Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers.Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald was the only unanimous choice in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league.“That’s surreal,” Donald said. “It’s a blessing. Wow! You see the hard work pay off.“A lot of credit to my teammates and my coaches for pushing me and helping me.”Mahomes, Kansas City’s second-year sensation, drew 45 votes at quarterback and was joined by teammates Travis Kelce at tight end, Tyreek Hill as the flex player and Mitchell Schwartz at right tackle.Kelce’s brother, Eagles center Jason, also made the team.“For me and my brother to both get it, it’s that much more special because I still remember us in the backyard fighting with each other, playing football growing up and we envisioned each other competing at the highest level, competing against the best players,” Jason said. “And for both of us to be recognized as one of those guys is pretty special.”Joining Nelson and Leonard as rookies on the team were Seahawks punter Michael Dickson and Chargers safety Derwin James.“These are the kind of guys who have the DNA, the makeup of everything that we are looking for,” Colts coach Frank Reich said of Nelson and Leonard. “All the intangibles, all the character qualities Marlon Mack Jersey , everything about them. It’s a really hard filter to get through to get marked that way and both Quenton and Darius had that on their card. So that says something about their maturity and how fast we think they will develop.”And already have developed.Chicago also had four All-Pros: edge rusher Khalil Mack, cornerback Kyle Fuller, safety Eddie Jackson and punt returner Tarik Cohen. Two players made All-Pro for the fifth time: Houston edge rusher J.J. Watt and Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly.“It means a lot to get back to the top level of the game,” said Watt, who missed most of the 2016 and ’17 seasons with major injuries. “Obviously, it’s an extreme honor to be a first-team All-Pro, especially after what I’ve been through the last two years and hearing the things that people were saying and questioning myself at times.“To be able to get back to the top level of the game and know that I still have things to improve on and things that I want to get even better at, it’s exciting.”The All-Pro team was split: 14 AFC and 14 NFC members. There were 16 newcomers: Mahomes; Schwartz; Fuller; Jackson; Cohen; Saints receiver Michael Thomas; Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari; Eagles interior defensive lineman Fletcher Cox; Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore; Chargers defensive back Desmond King and special teamer Adrian Phillips; Jets kick returner Andre Roberts; and the four rookies.Players with previous All-Pro honors who made the 2018 team included Donald and Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, each for the fourth time; Mack, Dallas right guard Zack Martin and Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, each for the third time; Hill; Rams running back Todd Gurley; and Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins.“I think I really took a lot of pride in leadership,” said Wagner, who drew 49 votes. “I knew that was going to be big if we were going to be successful. I knew I was going to have to up my role in that, up my mindfulness in that. I was really conscious of that and just making sure I was, when it came to getting back to the defense I looked at it from a different lens.”Hopkins got the most votes on offense with 46.“This is validation,” Hopkins said. “I feel like these people are the people who actually know football, who study football, who have been around football for years. So to be on this list and to be first team is a great feeling. But it makes me want to work harder and continue to be on that list.”

For Part 2, click around here somewhere.)The regression series has been... somewhat less than optimistic. As a commenter put it last week, the Seattle Seahawks lived on the positive side of variance in 2018. Your tl;dr is exactly that: 2019 might have some unpleasant luck-related surprises. And not of the Andrew variety. He is so pleasant. Not everything went exceptionally right for the Seahawks last year. Only fumbles, first downs via penalty, Tyler Lockett’s performance Tom Johnson Color Rush Jersey , and now red zone possessions. Opponent kicking too. Only that. No more. (Okay there’s more. John Gilbert took a stab at some Russell Wilson stuff too, but what does that guy know, besides everything.)Red Zone RedemptionLong story short: The 2018 Seahawks were the best version of themselves, the best we’ve seen since Russell Wilson arrived in Seattle, in the red zone. On offense, they were good, gooder than usual.Carroll-Wilson Red Zone OffenseSeasonRed Zone TD %NFL RankSeasonRed Zone TD %NFL RankThe PC-RW Seahawks are pretty much always a middle-of-the-road red zone team. Sometimes a little better, sometimes a little worse. A lot worse in 2016. Their mean isn’t “a top 10 red zone offense.” They’re likely to regress in 2019. (Please don’t. We can see it coming. But please don’t.)The bigger problem with red zoniness is that in 2018, the Seahawks combined a historically — for them — good offensive season with an almost LOB-esque performance on defense. Their red zone TD percentage differential, a stat I just made up, was their best since 2013.TD Percentage DifferentialSeasonTD % -- offenseTD % -- defenseTD % -- differentialSeasonTD % -- offenseTD % -- defenseTD % -- differentialThe 2018 differential result, 14.6 percentage points, is the highest of any PC-RW Seahawks team. Better than the stingy 2013 LOB, better than the 2015 video game mode offense.Observation 1 — please allow me to take a moment to appreciate how the 2014 team won the NFC and led the league in scoring defense without any sort of red zone prowess whatsoever.Observation 2 — look at 2013 and how it’s a little bit of an outlier. Seattle’s defensive numbers are in the 40s and 50s every other season. They’re also in the 40s and 50s every other season for every other team since 2012. Save for four exceptions:2017 Chargers 36.12015 Jets 35.02014 Chiefs 37.72013 Detroit 38.1Observation 3 — 2018 is an outlier in terms of offense, even more than you might suppose at first glance. Only 23 times this decade has a single team exceeded 65.5 percent in a single season. In 256 tries this decade, 232 teams have done worse than the Seahawks from last season. Seattle Rasheem Green Color Rush Jersey , suddenly, was a top 10 percent red zone offense of the decade.Observation 4 — Across the NFL, Jacksonville went from 69.0 to 44.1 TD percentage in the space of a year. Not nice. The Chargers rose from 46.8 to 64.4. The red zone is a volatile place. It’s also where rushing matters the most. A compressed field makes explosive pass plays far less likely; reaching third and manageable is a worthy goal instead of a fool’s errand. The Seahawks are built to succeed in the red zone. But are they a top-tier offense of the entire decade down there? Ehhhhh.Opponent FG against Let us talk about the Atlanta Falcons, which is what you came here for. Our Falcons. Dan Quinn forever, to be perfectly honest. Don’t even talk to me about 28-3.In 2018, no team was more unfortunate, field-goal-wise, than the Falcons watching their opponents from the sidelines. Falcons foes made 100 percent of their field goals. Not one miss. Seahawks fans know what that’s like, kind of. In ‘14, ‘15 and ‘17, Seattle was bottom-seven lucky. It seemed like every kicker made everything against the Seahawks, and it was almost true. On the flipside, Seattle in ‘16 and ‘17 was top-five lucky. If you’re looking for a stat that varies without rhyme or reason, opponent field goal percentage is as good a candidate as any.Their kicker makes them all, or is clumsySeasonOpponent FG %How lucky?SeasonOpponent FG %How lucky?Don’t look too hard for a pattern. Instead, let’s express 2018 in a way we can all understand Will Dissly Color Rush Jersey , by identifying who played the part of Blair Walsh. As a Seahawk, Walsh attempted 67 kicks. He made 58. Not great. He was worse on field goals, 72.4 percent, but he missed nine total attempts all year.In 2018, a year later, Seahawks opponents also attempted 67 kicks. They made 57. Swap a couple three-point misses for a couple extra-point misses, and the Seahawks essentially faced Bad Blair Walsh in every game of 2018. You can call that regression (it’s not), payback (it’s not), irony (still not) or chance (yes that’s what it is). There’s literally no way to anticipate what 2019 will look like. It could be anything! But probably worse than fifth-luckiest against kickers. Or! Maybe bring on a series of Walshes again. We accept. Football’s weird. The sample sizes are small and the random variation from year to year is so critical to a team’s final record. Surprise us, upcoming season. But, probability, if you’re listening, maybe don’t make all the surprises unpleasant, even though so far the omens are bad.
let the situation play itself out in due time." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteDawgs EDTShareTweetShareShareNo need for the Browns to rush the decision on Duke JohnsonPhoto by Jason Miller/Getty ImagesThe Cleveland Browns have several items to check off this summer during training camp and the preseason. At the top of the list is filling the open position at right guard. They also need to round out the second unit on the defensive line and work on the configuration of the defensive secondary. General manager John Dorsey may also have to do something about running back Duke Johnson Britton Colquitt Jersey , who is entering his fifth season with the team and is currently seeking a trade. Johnson has been a bit of an enigma since joining the Browns as a third-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft. On the one hand he always seems to make something happen when he has the ball, and he set a franchise record for receptions by a running back with 74 in 2017. But he has also seen his opportunities decline each year, from 104 rushing opportunities his rookie year to just 40 last season, as the Browns have worked to improve the running game. And after being targeted an average of 80 times a year in the passing game his first three seasons, Johnson only had 62 passes thrown his way last year and that number will likely decrease this year with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. now on the roster.Johnson has shown up every week — never missing a game so far in his NFL career — and signed a contract extension with the Browns last summer despite experiencing firsthand the 1-31 nonsense of former head coach Hue Jackson. Now, with the emergence of running back Nick Chubb in the rushing game, the eventual return of running back Kareem Hunt from an eight-game suspension, and the elevation of the wide receiver group, Johnson is looking for a new opportunity somewhere other than Cleveland.Ken Blaze-USA TODAY SportsSo what is Dorsey to do?Befitting a player that three head coaches (two full time and one interim) could never figure out what to do with, exactly Tyrod Taylor Jersey , the options are all over the board regarding Johnson’s future. There is the measured approach, as championed by Scott Petrak at The Chronicle-Telegram:There is the “let’s move on already” approach, presented by Mary Kay Cabot at cleveland.com:Bonus points for letting Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew help fuel your opinion:Finally, there is the unhinged argument of cutting Johnson and getting nothing in return to … send a message? … as presented by Nate Davis at USA Today:So back to the original question: what should the Browns do with Johnson?Releasing him is absurd and should be a complete non-starter if anyone within the halls of Browns HQ were to ever bring it up. Johnson may no longer have a role on the Browns, but it is silly to try and argue that he is not a viable NFL player. He’s tough, reliable and is an asset in the passing game. Saying the Browns should trade him for whatever they can get to eliminate a “distraction” is a bit disingenuous. Johnson’s trade request is only a distraction if the media continues to bring it up to the coaches and players which, when you think about it, makes the media the distraction. Johnson has said he will not cause trouble and there is nothing in his time with the Browns to indicate that he is being dishonest. It’s true that his time in Cleveland may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean that Dorsey should not maximize his value. Which brings us to option three, which is to keep Johnson on the roster — at least for now. It is likely that a team will find itself in need of a running back near the end of the preseason due to an injury or an unexpected turn of events with a player. When that day comes Baker Mayfield Color Rush Jersey , Dorsey can then look to make a deal on even ground. Waiting will also give the Browns more opportunities to see what second-year running back Dontrell Hilliard can bring to the field. The coaching staff seems pretty high on Hilliard’s ability, but he only had nine receptions and zero rushing attempts last season, so maybe it would be prudent to see a bit more of what he can do before reaching any conclusions. If nothing materializes before the start of the regular season, the Browns can simply keep Johnson on the roster and make the best of the situation. Hunt will not return until the second half of the season, and even though it will be the Chubb and Hunt show from that point forward, the Browns could use a player like Johnson in the early part of the season. Gray was Dane Brugler’s 47th-ranked running back in this year’s class, while Dean was the 91st-ranked cornerback. Harevey was his 102nd-ranked linebacker. With the good comes the bad, as Cleveland had to say goodbye to three players in corresponding moves: RB Darrin Hall, LB Xavier Woodson-Luster, and CB Ashton Lampkin. Some fans may chuckle at themselves a bit about seeing Hall’s name there if they were among the group who made early predictions that he would make the team’s 53-man roster. Lampkin and Woodson-Luster were signed by GM John Dorsey late last season.
was missing from the team’s voluntary offseason workouts because he wants a trade to another team.Jones is at this week’s mandatory minicamp Green Bay Packers Hoodie , but didn’t practice on Tuesday because of a hamstring issue. He also didn’t comment on whether he’s looking for a trade and directed questioners to General Manager Brian Gutekunst. He’s shown that on the field at times. We’ll go along and see where it goes.”The Packers signed Adrian Amos and drafted Darnell Savage in the first round, so Jones’s easiest path to playing time this season would likely come with a different team. Enough of this.If the Eagles are going to make a respectable showing after their first Super Bowl title, it’s time to do so. They have lost three of four. They turn over the ball too often and can’t make big defensive stops. They are heavily injured physically and, perhaps psychologically, by a 4-6 record as they host the New York Giants (3-7) on Sunday.“It’s uncharted territory a little bit,” coach Doug Pederson says. “I think the guys have really handled it well. They’re disappointed, they’re frustrated, quite frankly, as we all are. We haven’t played up to the caliber that we’re capable of playing.“Nobody is going to feel sorry for us, and we’re not going to do the same. They are probably exhausted after that 54-51 Monday night affair in which Los Angeles improved to 10-1 and Kansas City fell to 9-2.Seattle (5-5) at Carolina (6-4)The winner could place itself in strong position for a wild card. Neither the Seahawks nor Panthers figures to catch their division leaders, the Rams and Saints, respectively. A Seahawks loss clinches the NFC West for LA.Carolina has lost two straight in entirely different manners, a blowout at the hands of Pittsburgh and then a one-point defeat at Detroit when a 2-point conversion failed .Both teams will want to run; Seattle leads the league in yards on the ground despite not having a standout running back.Tennessee (5-5) at Houston (7-3) http://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Darnell-Savage-Jr.-Jersey , Monday nightNot only are the Texans, winners of seven in a row, in charge of the AFC South, they’ve become a factor for a potential playoff bye. He could be particularly destructive if the Titans need to play Blaine Gabbert for the injured starting QB, Marcus Mariota. The Titans have been maddeningly inconsistent. They dominate New England, then get blown out at Indianapolis. This is a rare difficult matchup for the rest of their schedule.Pittsburgh (7-2-1) at Denver (4-6)A sign of a contender is playing poorly — very poorly at times — and still winning. The Steelers did that last week at Jacksonville, a game that could catapult them to bigger things in a division they already control.Antonio Brown is tied for the league lead with 11 touchdown receptions and has at least one touchdown catch in eight consecutive games. With a TD reception on Sunday, Brown would tie Hall of Famer Lance Alworth (in 1963) and A.J. Green (in 2012) for the third-longest streak of games with a touchdown catch in a single season. Jerry Rice has the mark with 12 in 1987.Denver comes off a stirring comeback victory at the Chargers and linebacker Von Miller comes off another one of his dominant performances with a key interception and his 100th sack.Miami (5-5) at Indianapolis (5-5)A pair of .500 teams headed in opposite directions. The Dolphins are reeling, coming off a bye after losses in three of four, but expect to have starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill back from a shoulder injury. The Miami offense has gone nine quarters without a touchdown.Indy is one of the NFL’s hottest teams with four consecutive victories. Andrew Luck has thrown a TD pass in a league-high 33 straight games, and at least three TD passes in seven straight, tying Dan Marino for the third-longest streak in NFL history. Luck can tie Peyton Manning (eight) for No. 2 against Miami. He also has not been sacked since Oct. 4, a career-best 214 attempts. That five-game string without a sack is tied for third longest since 1982.Green Bay (4-5-1) at Minnesota (5-4-1)Yet another prime-time appearance for the Vikings, who are 0-3 at night. Both teams are chasing the Bears, of course, and have wild-card aspirations Rashan Gary Jersey , too.If Minnesota doesn’t find a ground game, it’s likely doomed to being home in January; it ranks 31st. Green Bay allowed 173 rushing yards to the Seahawks last week.Green Bay doesn’t have that problem. Aaron Jones, who missed the early season tie between these clubs while suspended, has 342 rushing yards and four TDs in the past four games, plus 12 receptions for 100 yards and one TD. Jones leads the league with 6.4 yards per rush. But the Packers have lost seven straight regular-season road games since winning in overtime at Cleveland last Dec. 10.New England (7-3) at New York Jets (3-7)Just what the spiraling Jets need: Tom Brady and the very annoyed Patriots making a visit.New England played poorly at Tennessee before its bye, but wasn’t within light years of how badly the Jets performed in their loss to Buffalo. While the Patriots are on pace for their millionth straight AFC East title (actually their 10th), the heat on Jets coach Todd Bowles has intensified. New York has lost four in a row and has beaten New England once in the past eight tries.Brady needs 147 passing yards and four touchdown passes to surpass Peyton Manning (79,279 passing yards and 579 touchdown passes) for the most in each category in NFL history, including the postseason.Jacksonville (3-7) at Buffalo (3-7)The Jaguars had a chance to turn around their disappointing season when they led Pittsburgh 16-0 last week. They folded, and now the questions intensify about the security of the coaching staff and quarterback Blake Bortles.Still, though Jacksonville has dropped six in a row, it’s remaining schedule is anything but difficult. To not make some sort of turnaround would be inexcusable. One thing worth noting about the Bills: They keep coming at you, despite perhaps the least-talented offensive roster in the league. Their defense makes them competitive.Arizona (2-8) at Los Angeles Chargers (7-3)The Chargers blew a chance to be tied for the AFC West lead with some suspect play calls and play-not-to-lose mentality late against Denver. Still, they are in excellent shape for a playoff berth, particularly if Philip Rivers makes better decisions with a game on the line.Rivers has 23 touchdown passes and has thrown for at least 25 in 10 consecutive seasons. He needs two TD throws to tie former teammate Drew Brees for the second-longest streak. Peyton Manning had 13.Like LA, the Cardinals come off a late-game fold http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jace-sternberger-jersey , against Oakland.Oakland (2-8) at Baltimore (5-5)With Joe Flacco sidelined against Cincinnati, first-round pick Lamar Jackson brought a running game to the QB position, something Flacco won’t be doing when he returns. The Ravens rushed for 265 yards as Jackson ran 27 times for 117 yards, Gus Edwards had 115 yards on the ground and both rookies rushed for seven first downs.“Oh, he had 27 carries,” coach John Harbaugh said. “You know what he did? He won the game. He played his tail off. Celebrate that, and move on.”The Raiders hadn’t celebrated a victory since Sept. 30. They ranked 31st in run defense, so another win here seems unlikely.Cleveland (3-6-1) at Cincinnati (5-5)The Bengals have been ravaged by injuries and seem headed for yet another disappointing season. But a win Sunday would keep them in the wild-card chase.Neither team plays much defense, so while this won’t be Chiefs-Rams, it could keep the scoreboard lit.San Francisco (2-8) at Tampa Bay (3-7)Not much to recommend here.Bucs receiver Mike Evans has 957 yards receiving and can join Hall of Famer Randy Moss (six consecutive seasons) and A.J. Green (five) as the only players in NFL history with at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of their first five seasons. He figures to get it against the 49ers whether Jameis Winston returns to starting duty at quarterback or Ryan Fitzpatrick goes.
Of all the NFL seasonal awards https://www.coltsfanshop.com , the one shaping up as the closest and most intriguing is for Comeback Player of the Year. How could it not be with the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Adrian Peterson , who have won league MVP honors, plus three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck as front-runners?Quite a few big names are back in action after curtailed 2017 seasons, among them Carson Wentz, Odell Beckham Jr., David Johnson and Deshaun Watson. Unless they have spectacular second halves of the schedule, though, the attention belongs on that impressive quartet of Rodgers, Peterson, Watt and Luck. All four have had a significant impact, perhaps most notably Peterson, the previous non-quarterback to win the league’s MVP award (in 2012) and the only non-QB to take it since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006. Remember, Peterson Indianapolis Colts Customized Jerseys , 33, was available to everyone as a free agent before the Redskins reached out.He has paid them back by ranking fifth in rushing with 587 yards, has four touchdowns, and is surrounded on the stats sheet by guys who weren’t even in high school when Peterson broke in for Minnesota in 2007.“I think he’s embodied kind of a little bit of what we want to be about not only as an offense but as a team,” says Redskins quarterback Alex Smith. “I just think the way he’s played on that edge — physical, relentless. I think that’s what we want to be about, not only as an offense, but a football team playing with that kind of an edge all the time. That kind of physicality certainly helped set the tone for us quite a few times this year.”Washington leads the NFC East at 5-2 even though its passing game ranks 26th. Credit a strong defense and the work of “All Day.”That moniker would certainly fit Watt, too. No one puts in more effort on the field — and Watt has put in the same level of diligence recovering from not one but two major injuries. He played a total of eight games in 2016-17.His return to the Texans started slowly, as did Houston with three straight defeats. Then Watt began dominating, and the Texans (5-3) began winning. They now lead the AFC South, and Watt is tied for the conference lead with eight sacks while stopping the run as well as any edge rusher around.“I’m still not where I want to be yet,” Watt says; that’s a scary thought for opponents. “I still have plenty of growth and plenty of things to work on. But I didn’t make it to Game 8 in either of the last two seasons so I’m happy with that …“Like I’ve always said the whole time Indianapolis Colts T-Shirts , I don’t blame anybody who didn’t know if I was going to be the same again because there were times I didn’t know. So, I can’t sit here and get too mad at people who thought I might be washed up or thought I might be done. Because I was sitting in that same boat when I was sitting at home with a cast on my leg and not being able to walk, and thinking: ‘Man, will I be the same again?'”Certainly, Luck could have asked that same question after missing 2017 with a shoulder problem. It’s never truly been clear if the injury was misdiagnosed or mistreated, or that Indy simply was fooled by the length of time its starting quarterback would need to recover. But recover he has, and even with a paucity of skill position talent around him, Luck is looking very good. He has thrown for 23 touchdowns, second only to Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, who has tremendous talent at wideout and running back to work with. Luck is moving well and, most significantly, his arm strength is excellent. Then there’s Rodgers, who might have grabbed last year’s comeback award had he returned from his collarbone problems and revived Green Bay’s season https://www.coltsfanshop.com/hats , getting the Packers into the playoffs. But it didn’t play out that way last December, and he finished the season on injured reserve. So he definitely qualifies in this category, and he has also battled a knee issue most of the season. Yet Rodgers has been at his MVP form even as the rest of the Packers struggle.“He’s still the best or is tied for the best on the planet,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan says. “He always has been. He’s the man. I know he’s not 100 percent, everyone knows that, but he seems to be a little bit better each week. He’s still the best.”But is he the guy the AP’s 50 voters will support for Comeback Player of the Year in such a loaded field?Tune in Feb. 2 when the award winners are announced. Every week, I will present a summary of some basic and advanced stats for the Colts performance relative to the league. Thanks to Pro Football Reference, NFL.com and the nflSCrapR project for being awesome sources of weekly data.Against Jacksonville, the Colts offense went 11 drives without scoring. With the first 5 drives against Houston the story didn’t change. It wasn’t until the second quarter when Andrew Luck and company got it in gear, breaking the 16 drive streak with 4 consecutive scores. And so this hot-cold effort ended up being a lukewarm 72.4% Drive Success Rate on the day. That’s not a bad number, and likely a good enough level of play to get to the post-season. But once there, that won’t win many playoff games. TEAM TOTALSFor the third week in a row, the Colts had trouble converting 3rd downs even with a favorable average 6.9 yards to go.Conversion on other downs made up for it though Indianapolis Colts Hoodie , as almost 32% of scrimmage plays resulted in a new set of downs, which was 6th best on the week. The tipped interception had a large impact on overall performance as 6.6 yards per play is a big number to only get 2.2 adjusted points per drive.PASSINGLuck shrugged off a poor Jacksonville performance, to put up some outstanding numbers on the week.40% of his passes moved the chains which is pretty unstoppable as long as the team can avoid sacks and turnovers. A 66% completion rate isn’t Luck’s best on the year but with an 8.9 Average Depth of Target it is very good.Completed passes were even farther down the field with 9.7 air yards and the receivers tacking on good yards after the catch (5.1).Other than the dropped passes (and the subsequent interception), the pass game was near flawless.RUSHINGWhile better than last week, the run game still wasn’t good. The best rusher on the day was Luck who provided 2 of the 4 rushing firsts and the only run over 10 yards.Without QB contributions, Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines could only muster 34 yards and 2.4 Yards Per Carry. CONCLUSIONS & NEXT MATCH-UPThis was a good but unbalanced week. I was happy with the effort considering Houston is a top 10 defense by DVOA, but good play needs to become great play down the stretch. The offense has to improve the run game and bring a more balanced threat if we expect to win in the playoffs. . . and we ARE going to the playoffs.Dallas is strong against the run (wRSR 7th) but not as good against the pass (19th ANY/A against). So while that seems to favor a pass-heavy Colts team, shutting down the run can easily lead to shutting down the pass *cough* Jags *cough*.TRAILING 5 WEEK TOTALS (per game)SEASON TOTALS (per game)
Following their 43-16 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Ed Dickson Color Rush Jersey , the Seahawks improved to 7-5 with their third straight win. Combined with a loss by the Minnesota Vikings, who fall to 6-5-1 after a loss to the New England Patriots, that puts Seattle in the six-seed as of Sunday evening. The next game to watch: Washington at the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Should the Eagles win at home, the Seahawks should move into the five seed, the wild card team that will likely go on the road to face the winner of the NFC East. As of now, that looks like it will be the Dallas Cowboys Jaron Brown Color Rush Jersey , a team that Seattle beat earlier this season. The NFC West is now decided as the LA Rams clinched the division following their win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Carolina Panthers, the team that the Seahawks needed to beat last week to get into this favorable position, lost for the fourth straight time. The Panthers went from a two-game lead over Seattle when they were 6-2 to being two games behind the Seahawks in a matter of only four weeks. If Philly does win on Monday night it will knock down Washington, but also keep the Eagles just a game behind Seattle. Other than that, there’s not much standing between the Seahawks and their sixth playoff berth in the last seven years. Per 538, they are now 86% to make the postseason. The Seahawks host the Vikings next Monday night. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson created some news on Friday when asked by Jimmy Fallon whether Wilson anticipates getting the “biggest contract ever.” Here’s the far bigger question: Did that topic come up coincidentally Tre Flowers Color Rush Jersey , or deliberately? With Seahawks coach Pete Carroll telling two weeks earlier that talks between the team and Wilson, whose contract expires after 2019, on a long-term deal are “ongoing,” Wilson quite possibly was making it known that the time is now to get it done, and that the goal is a dollar more than the $33.5 million per year paid to quarterback Aaron Rodgers by the Packers.Last May, PFT reported that Wilson intended at the time to resist signing a long-term deal and playing on a year-to-year basis under the franchise tag. While he’d be carrying the risk of injury David Moore Color Rush Jersey , the rules make playing quarterback safer than ever (subject to the ever-present possibility of a fluke injury like the badly broken leg suffered by Alex Smith last season), which makes it far easier to refuse the security of a long-term deal and to activate a process that would result in $30.34 million in 2020 for Wilson, $36.41 million for 2021, and (if the Seahawks tag him a third time) $52.43 million for 2022.Including the $17 million Russell is due to earn this year, that’s $136.41 million over four years, which equates to $34 million per year over the next four. So why not just offer him $34 million per year over the next four or five years right now?Whatever it would take to sign Wilson now https://www.theseahawksfanshop.com , it’s only going to get more expensive as he more time goes by. And Fallon’s question, coupled with Wilson’s answer, could be a clear and unmistakable sign to the team that the time has come to make him the highest-paid player in football history.
fashion taste clashed with the NFL’s.The league reached out to the Browns on Monday and told them that their star can no longer wear a watch on the field after he sported an expensive one during Sunday’s season opener against Tennessee. The flashy Nick Chubb Jersey , fashionable wide receiver wore an orange Richard Mille-designed watch — which retails for more than $250,000 — during the Browns’ 43-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans. On Monday, league spokesman Michael Signora said while there are no rules prohibiting jewelry, there is a policy “prohibiting hard objects.”Browns coach Freddie Kitchens said he was not aware that Beckham had on the lavish time piece. Kitchens also said the team will abide the rules.“As long as they’re going to enforce that with everyone, I’m fine with it,” Kitchens said. “Let’s just make sure it gets enforced with everybody.”It’s not clear if Beckham spoke with anyone from the league or if he will be fined for his fashion faux pas.Beckham Chad Thomas Color Rush Jersey , who came to Cleveland in a blockbuster offseason trade from the New York Giants, caught seven passes for 71 yards in his first action for the Browns.Known for his style and one-handed catches, the 26-year-old Beckham drove his customized, orange Rolls Royce to FirstEnergy Stadium for Sunday’s game.Beckham will return to New York next week as the Browns play the New York Jets on Monday night. United States for getting great deals at retail stores Jimmy Graham Color Rush Jersey , but it also has grown into quite a day for college football around the country. While the NFL dominates the airwaves on Thanksgiving Day, many conferences have taken to scheduling some notable games on the following day, and this year sees a continuation of that trend. While the Big Ten has a single rivalry game taking place today, it’s not one that will impact the standings at all. Instead, the Big XII and Pac-12 each have top matchups this evening that will affect the participants in the two conferences’ title games. The impact of the Apple Cup between Washington and Washington State is easy to understand — with WSU ahead of U-Dub by one game, the winner goes to the Pac-12 Championship Game against Utah next week. Washington State is very much alive in the playoff race, however, but they are the conference’s only hope at this point. The Big XII is a bit messier, however. If Oklahoma beats West Virginia tonight, they’re in. However https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Muhammad-Wilkerson-Jersey , a West Virginia win could throw the conference into a three-way tie at the top, provided that Texas takes care of business at Kansas early in the day. Under this scenario, Oklahoma’s two conferences losses would then be to WVU and Texas, so those two teams would go to the title game, leaving Oklahoma out in the cold. If both West Virginia and Texas lose, then West Virginia would have a rematch with Oklahoma next week by virtue of their win over Texas a few weeks back.Got it?Here’s the full schedule of college games for your Black Friday enjoyment!Early and Afternoon Games#14 Texas Longhorns at Kansas Jayhawks11:00 AM CT (12 Noon ET)Memorial Stadium, Lawrence, KSFOX Sports 1Nebraska Cornhuskers at Iowa Hawkeyes11:00 AM CT (12 Noon ET)Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IAFOXArkansas Razorbacks at Missouri Tigers1:30 PM CT (2:30 ET)Memorial Stadium DeShone Kizer Jersey , Columbia, MOCBSVirginia Cavaliers at Virginia Tech Hokies3:30 PM ETLane Stadium, Blacksburg, VAABCOregon Ducks at Oregon State Beavers1:00 PM PT (4:00 ET)Reser Stadium, Corvallis, ORFOX Sports 1#9 UCF Golden Knights at South Florida Bulls4:15 PM ETRaymond James Stadium, Tampa, FLESPNPrime Time#6 Oklahoma Sooners at #13 West Virginia Mountaineers8:00 PM ETMilan Puskar Stadium, Morgantown, WVESPN#16 Washington Huskies at #8 Washington State Cougars5:30 PM PT (8:30 ET)Martin Stadium Tramon Williams Color Rush Jersey , Pullman, WAFOX The draft gets underway Thursday night — get ready for this year’s event with a complete primer here." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteAcme Packing Companya Green Bay Packers communityLog In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsSectionsPackersOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTShareTweetShareShareNFL Draft 2019 schedule, TV/online streaming info, first round draft order, & morePhoto by Tim Warner/Getty ImagesIt is almost time. . On the one hand Indianapolis Colts Customized Jerseys , it seems straight forward. On the other hand, it can get dicey and confusing. All general managers have a salary cap that all teams must fit under. Simple, right? It gets more complicated in a hurry. After all, teams with very little cap space frequently sign marquee players to high dollar contracts. This is accomplished through bonuses, incentive-laden contract clauses, and back-loading a deal where the bulk of the contract’s value is paid in years the team expects to have more cap space. This salary cap planning and “manipulation” is what NFL salary capologists like Mike Bluem spend their time considering every day. How can we plan for the future in a way that allows Chris Ballard and Jim Irsay to field a team with the most talent in the NFL for the longest period of time? We can’t simply spend all the way up to the salary cap every year, leaving no space available, and hope to keep the nucleus together. Major contracts for our own players will consistently require work as the old ones expire and new deals need to be made.Keeping in mind the needs for our own players, how much salary cap space do we have to work with to sign free agents and bring in outside talent? How do we work all of this together to make sure we stay above the NFL’s mandated 89 percent rule? This week, we’ll take a look at these questions and do our best to shed light on the NFL salary cap, 89 percent rule, and what fans might be able to expect Chris Ballard and Mike Bluem to do in 2019 and beyond.Evaluating the Colts Top Positional NeedsIt is hard to believe how far the Colts have come at positions of need from the end of the 2017 season. Heading into the 2018 NFL Draft, we included pass rush, off-ball linebackers, offensive line, and running backs at the top of the list. While the need for pass rush remains, there is very little need to commit significant resources to adding off-ball linebackers, offensive line, or running backs. At this point, the Colts defense desperately needs to find help rushing the passer. The unit did a great job stopping the run but the defensive line-secondary symbiosis was off for much of the season and made life particularly difficult against strong offenses and good quarterbacks. As the symbiosis suggests, more help in the secondary, especially in terms of depth is important and the work to add to the interior of the defensive line will never end. In particular Indianapolis Colts T-Shirts , the safety position could go through considerable turnover if Chris Ballard chooses not to retain his own free agents. On offense, Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton would benefit considerably by adding a couple of legitimate threats at wide receiver through the draft or free agency. Our list: Pass Rush, Wide Receiver, Secondary, Defensive Line — Depth?SecondaryThere are an intriguing number of defensive backs about to hit free agency who could provide a spark for the Colts defense. The biggest obstacle might be Ballard’s confidence in some of his own in-house free agents and the continued development of his young players. Consider that Ballard has spoken highly of Clayton Geathers, Matthias Farley oozes the type of player and locker room presence Ballard covets, and former first round pick Malik Hooker is firmly entrenched as the starting free safety. A player like Landon Collins could certainly be a huge boost for the secondary but I doubt that Collins will reach free agency, as the Giants have already indicated their intention to use the franchise tag if a deal cannot be reached before the deadline. Also, consider that cornerbacks Kenny Moore and Quincy Wilson earned praise from Ballard and the coaching staff in 2018. Free agent Pierre Desir is another player who seems to offer the kind of “homegrown” background that Ballard wants to reward. Desir is already familiar with Matt Eberflus’ scheme and could be retained for less money than some of the marquee names to hit free agency. With that said, the Colts have the money to go after any player they covet.S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix — While Clinton-Dix could certainly be a priority free agent for the Redskins, the team doesn’t have a ton of cap space and has other free agents who may be a high priority. How they plan to approach their quarterback situation with Alex Smith recovering from a gruesome leg injury is a complete unknown and it could alter their approach to the coming off-season.The upside of adding a player like Clinton-Dix is having a second deep safety in certain packages. A pairing with Hooker would create perhaps the most impressive coverage safety combination in the NFL. Spotrac projects his future contract will average $9.9 million with a total contract value of $49,500,476 over five years.CB Ronald Darby — The Philadelphia Eagles have worked salary cap magic in the past and they may be able to do so again but they will have to make some difficult decisions to get there. Do they risk placing a franchise tag on Darby after he suffered a season-ending knee injury? How do they approach the rest of their very heavy unrestricted free agent class to keep the team together? At some point, sacrifices will be made and it is possible that Ronald Darby makes his way to the free agent market solely due to cap restrictions. If he does, he could be a major upgrade for the Colts secondary. Placing him on the outside with Pierre Desir or Quincy Wilson would give Colts pass rushers additional time to get after the quarterback. Even with the injury, Spotrac projects Darby’s contract to cost an average of $13.4 million per season and to total just over $80 million for six seasons.CB Bashaud Breeland — The Colts brought in Breeland during his most recent stint in free agency. He ended up leaving without a contract and played for the Green Bay Packers this season. They could bring him back or allow him to get back to free agency. If he does get back to free agency, the Colts are in a far superior position than they were previously. He was one of the top free agent corners heading into the 2018 season but had to recover from injury.Spotrac projects that Breeland will cost an average of $6.9 million per year with a total contract value of just shy of $36 million over 5 years. It will be interesting to see if he can convince teams that he is fully recovered from his previous non-football injury that caused him to fail physical in his last team visits. Defensive LineUnfortunately, there are not a ton of interior defensive line prospects that are currently set to become unrestricted free agents. Those with the biggest names and who have proven the most are unlikely to make it to free agency. If a marquee free agent like Grady Jarrett did, it is hard to imagine that Chris Ballard would break the bank for him.DT Darius Philon — At only 25 years old, Philon still has legitimate upside potential. If a move to Matt Eberflus’ system can work some magic, he can continue his upward trajectory. Each season, Philon has managed to take a step forward in at least one area of his development. 2018 saw him take just under 60% of the Chargers’ defensive snaps https://www.coltsfanshop.com/hats , put up his highest single season tackle total, tie his single season record for one forced fumble, and come .5 sack shy of matching his mark in 2017 of 4.5 sacks. There is certainly a chance that the Chargers choose to bring him back to the fold but it is also fair to think that the team could focus significant resources at one major free agent to try to push them deeper into the playoffs while Philip Rivers is still playing. Like the next free agent prospect, Philon could likely be signed to a three-year deal worth $12 million with an average cap hit of around $4 million.DT Rodney Gunter — Gunter is 27 years old and will hit free agency in March as his rookie contract is coming to an end. It is unlikely that he will top anyone’s free agent want list and rather likely that only Cardinals fans are familiar enough with him to have a strong opinion about what he is worth or what he can bring to a team. That said, at 6’5”, 305 lbs. Gunter tallied 4.5 sacks, 44 tackles, and 2 forced fumbles in only 10 starts in 2018. Adding Gunter would be similar to signing Denico Autry, in that neither were marquee players on their respective defenses but both had a knack for making the most out of their opportunities. He played on just under 60% of Arizona’s snaps last year and could likely be signed to a three-year contract worth about $12 million. Knowing Ballard, if he signed this contract the guaranteed money would be front loaded with an average cap hit of around $4 million. Jaguars and Brett Hundley a free agent http://www.theseahawksfanshop.com/Marquise-Blair-Jersey , Russell Wilson entered Thursday as the only quarterback currently on the Seattle Seahawks roster. Not anymore. In news I know you’re absolutely itching to read, first-round draft bust Paxton Lynch, formerly of the Denver Broncos, has signed a reserve/futures contract with the Seahawks, making him the first entrant in the competition to be Wilson’s backup QB for the 2019 season.I don’t need to tell you that Lynch is/was terrible. One of John Elway’s many misfires, Lynch was taken 26th overall and only made four starts across two seasons, getting released before the start of the 2018 season. Lynch’s best game was against the Kansas City Chiefs at the end of 2017, going 21/31 for 254 and 2 touchdowns in a game that was basically like any other meaningless Week 17 matchup featuring a slew of backups. There’s no need to really be up in arms over this. You would assume the Seahawks would draft or sign another QB for competition in the coming months. Remember when the Seahawks signed Brady Quinn for preseason reps in the 2013 season? I do.This signing does bring us full circle, as in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Seahawks traded down from 26th to 31st, using that transaction to land Germain Ifedi and Nick Vannett, while the Broncos selected Lynch. Now they’re all on the same team (for now).
